Three courses and half a bottle of Bordeaux red.:)
I stopped learning French at 16 - is there a vegetarian option on the menu? I think I lived on omelettes on the few occasions I've been to France.
Never mind, I'll just have a pudding and champagne

The trouble is if people are buying rounds they know what you are drinking. I remember sitting at a wedding with about a dozen alcoholic drinks in front of me that people "insisted" I had. Well they could buy them but I wasn't going to drink them! I know they didn't mean to be rude but actually it is rude to decide that an adult can't decide for themselves what they want to drink. I was quite popular with a couple of friends who enjoyed my left overs, or should that be rejects?
I did go through a phase where I told people I was actually a recovering alcoholic and please don't offer me drinks. It stopped some but not all which I found quite disturbing.
Several times when living at home, and when back visiting, I tried to not drink when I went out with family. Even explaining that I shouldn't drink because of the medication I was on because of mental health problems met with 'well just don't take the pills on those nights'.
There's a lot of messed up attitudes to drink out there.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

Wow, so many replies!!
Eventually split into 2 bills, (1 per table) - one was split evenly as had the same set menu, the other got calculators out!

Did they ask you what you wanted to drink (then completely ignore your preference) or did they think 'ah, there's a little lady, I'll buy her a sweet sherry?'Wow, so many replies!!

So - did you get the answer to your question? :rotfl:0 -
I would suggest it's a result of the fat = bad world view.
From what quick google suggests, the difference between full fat v's reduced fat seems to be the addition of water...
I'd be interested in that if you have a link. It would certainly confirm what I rather suspect. Quite frankly - if I'm going to drink watered-down milk for instance then I'll buy the full-fat version and water it down myself.
I used to do that actually whilst living in the West Country - ie water it down 2:1 and it was fine for most purposes - and my "milk money" went further. Now I'm living in Wales and buying what looks like exactly the same milk - ie T*sco full fat organic milk and I can't do that any longer (as it goes far too watery). I gather that's because it's coming from a different breed of cow to what we have in the West Country (ie their milk isnt as creamy).0 -

Yeah! Hope you enjoyed your meal and a drink or two if appropriate :T:TIts not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0 -

Me too.
For whatever reason - I can work my way through a menu in Italian and pretty much understand it (though I've never learnt Italian) - but French....whoops...forgotten the vast majority of it...
Maybe a bit of those Latin lessons at school sunk into my subconscious somewhere....
I might just have the champagne - to which I am more than a little partial:beer:0 -
Skimmed milk isn't watered down full fat milk, it is milk with the fat removed.
That is why the vitamin / calcium levels are the same, it is just the fat that is removed.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I'd be more bothered whether everybody in the world had enough to eat rather than being concerned that those of us in the pampered West are eating "clean", particularly when it means spending unnecessary extra money to do so.0
