If they have been pressganged into it for example, and make comments to that effect or give out non verbal cues that they are doing it under duress, then yes, they very well could be affecting the enjoyment of others. I would much prefer to get a taxi under those circumstances.
Actually my experience as a drinker and a non drinker and as an observer whilst working in pubs is the people who get bent out of shape aren't the non drinkers but the drinkers who take it as their mission to biatch and complain if one or more of their group isn't drinking alcohol and try and persuade them to join them in drinking alcohol.
Why it matters so much to them is as baffling to me as the people who claim me opting out of a starter would ruin their meal. We aren't all sheep after all !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

As a matter of interest, why does freezing a banana make it "cleaner" than just eating it normally?
It's hard to make it into a product that mimics icecream WITHOUT freezing it !!! :rotfl:I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

!
I agree that does happen too, but I was addressing the point made which was;
"I don't think anyone would suggest the designated driver is ruining everyone else's night on the lash"0 -

It doesmt.
The point is that people who go in for genuinely healthy eating (ie "clean eating" is a useful umbrella term for this - as lots of people say they eat healthily when they dont at all) still want puddings/cakes/etc.
One typical pudding is icecream for instance and genuine healthy eaters often use frozen bananas as a base for it for instance and ensure all other ingredients are healthy too (eg genuine maple syrup or date syrup or the like - instead of sugar). "Clean eating" tends to lean towards veganism - and hence I guess the tendency to use say things like frozen bananas and decent quality coconut milk in it - rather than cows milk.0 -

Thank you very much for the explanation.
I think if I felt like that about food I'd just have fruit or some really good quality sorbets but it's good to know about others' choices.:)0 -

Without wanting to provoke another row:( isn't the difference that those who aren't drinking alcohol are drinking something rather than just standing round with their hands in their pockets looking on?0 -

Yes, to me that is a difference, they are joining in. Someone not eating isn't (but I don't want another row either, so I think I'll say here and now that I understand others see it differently and let's just agree to differ.).
I didn't go to that murder mystery party because I wouldn't be joining in. I felt that would spoil it for all the others (and seeing as how my friend was so diligently trying to fit me into a part I'd feel happy with, then for her it WOULD have spoilt it if I hadn't joined in).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Genuine question. How can coconut milk be "healthier" than cows milk if my fresh whole milk has 3.6g of fat (2.3g saturated)/100ml whilst the can of Reduced Fat coconut milk comes in at 8.4g of fat (7.5g saturated)/100ml? Presumably the can of "regular" coconut milk would have an even higher fat content. Why are maple syrup, date syrup (and presumably also agave syrup and honey) any "healthier" than sugar produced from sugar cane or beet? They are all "sugar"!0 -

Ah, but the sorbet would be made with "bad sugar"0
