But then I guess those who frequently buy oven/microwave ready meals have no use use for proper pans, nor know how to treat and preserve them.

    Glasses go cloudy.
    - the good wineglasses (too tall, and they are good quality so i don't want to risk them being scratched or getting cloudy)
The cheap wine glasses (too tall)
    - my good, decorated tumblers (again, mostly as I don't wnat them to get cloudy)

Finish Quantum - glasses won't go cloudy. They are the only ones.
I bought a bag of the fairy platinum ones (on a great offer).
My glasses started going cloudy :-(

I'm not quite sure you grasp the "buying a pan for life" consept. We don't buy supermarket pans that are annually replaceable. We buy them for life, or until someone actually finds a way to destroy one :rotfl:

I've only ever bought two pan sets in my entire life (I'm almost 50 now) the first being cheapie disposable ones whilst in Uni (actually my sister paid for those) - then my serious Stella / Le Creuset / ad hoc designer pans that I've accumulated through life - plus pans I've inherited from grandparents etc - none of which are replaceable and would take a hell of a lot of effort destroying.

But then I guess those who frequently buy oven/microwave ready meals have no use use for proper pans, nor know how to treat and preserve them.

I bought proper pans and royal doulton etc when I first married. When I divorced after my husband had an affair I smashed all the China into the skip and threw away my pans, glasses etc. I'm remarried and I don't care what my pans are like.

I've inherited a couple of China dinner services but they are never used. They will break they are so dainty.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

I just think there are more special things to pass on.. pans will not be mentioned in my will, haha... They are for cooking.. and plates are for eating from etc.. they are tools for food prep.. not an heirloom. If they still are useful then great.. but there will be a time noone wants them.

I actually have some really expensive stainless steel pans, I blooming hate them.. they are way too heavy and the handles get hot.. I think I've had about 6 lots of pans in the last 25 years.. my cheap Tefal ones were the best I ever had..

We pass on everything in our family.. but to help each other out. When our loved ones pass on there is usually something that reminds us of our loved one and we choose to have that.. My mother has her mothers hairnet and clips, my sister has her slippers.. I didn't want anything.. memories are in my head not in stuff.. and I definitely do not want anyones pans! pmsl..

So what's the difference between a genuine Le Creuset pan at £200 and the £40 cast iron pan I bought from Tesco? My mum has a Le Creuset which she bought from France many moons ago and I can't tell the difference.

As for pans as family heirlooms, whatever floats your boat - but I do well enough with my trusty Tefal.

Also not suitable for vegetarians because, let's face it, it's fish!:rotfl:

They can't have the chips either, a fact which really really annoys my ex mother in law.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

But you can't ever have proper fish n chips unless it's fried in proper chip fat lol

A true veggie would never buy food from a chippie anyway. Why would they?

really .. you think your descendents will want your pans...

I am utterly howling.. thats pretty much the funniest thing I've ever read/heard..

That's the thing about quality, it lasts.

I understand for some people it's an alien concept.:)

I have just been invited to a friend's birthday meal. New restaurant to me - she asked if I wanted to join her and friends at Turtle Bay, I thought it was a holiday destination....... So I've been online, looked at the menu to see the food choices, drooled a little, and already planned what I'll eat (well I have quite a few options..) and will just pay for my own meal and drinks - roughly, not to the penny, to include a small tip.

Well it's the day before the meal....

The birthday girl had emailed the menu to everyone - even though I've drooled over it since the table was booked.

I think there's 13 going, so a good mixed selection. I'll see how the payment side goes...
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Possibly how long they will last....and that someone would inherit a Le Creuset but wouldn't think much to inheriting a Tesco pan.
