Post of the Month April 2016

badge-postofthemonth.png

What's it about?

Post of the Month is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the useful, MoneySaving posts you've read on the Forum that you think deserve recognition. The best will get our special Post of the Month badge from MSE Badger!

Who's MSE Badger and what's it about?

You may have seen some of MSE Badger's badges on forumites' profiles e.g., on the Debt Free Wannabe and Mortgage Free Wannabe boards where people have cleared their debts and paid off their mortgage early. And perhaps on the Grabbit board where forumites' fantastic spots have been included in the weekly email.

What to do

To nominate the forum post and poster you feel have been most useful or helpful this month..
  1. Post the link to the specific thread or post you're nominating. If you can't link to the post give us the thread link, the post number (in the top right hand corner) and the name of the person who posted it.
  2. In one paragraph say why you feel this forumite deserves a Post of the Month badge.

Maybe you've seen a fab frugal idea on the Old Style Board, a bargain game console on the Gaming Board or a fantastic grow-your-own tip on Greenfingered MoneySaving.

Remember, by doing this you're nominating, NOT voting - there is a difference!

How will we pick the winner?

At the end of the month the MSE Team will shortlist the 10 posts we like the best (if there are that many!) and put them in a poll for you to vote on. The post with the most votes will win the badge - hooray! :)

We're really looking forward to seeing what you've enjoyed reading this month.

Hello Andrea many thanks for this. I would like to nominate Badger09 from the Banking and Saving Forum for their kindness in helping me with advice to set up an account with M&S which should (fingers crossed) net me £200 in vouchers and also a savings account at 5%.

Like many people, you're assuming opening a new account and switching another into it, is a single process. It isn't. It is 2 separate steps.

I haven't read all the M&S switch T&Cs - you obviously need to ;), but, it appears that all you need to do is successfully apply by 5th April. You then have 3 months to get your (new?) donor account ready and switched.

See page 10, but as I said, you need to read & understand all the T&Cs.

    http://bank.marksandspencer.com/pdf/CACass.pdf#Page=10

So, my advice would be to apply for the M&S account NOW.

Have you opened the Tesco current account as a 'donor' for switching? If not, you could switch your new Clydesdale account once you've received the bonus.

Even if you're not accepted by M&S, it makes sense to have another account ready for switching, in case any more switching offers appear;)

Finally, do you have an account you are keeping? Do you have any savings which could benefit from a decent interest current account, or are you just hopping around bagging switching bonuses?:p

Now with me entering it should bring a few other people posting to try stop me winning :p i think its a great idea though and should be fun! This place needs more fun :)

Hello many thanks. Am a bit dense at quoting as it's been a while.

Any way I am bumping this thread so someone else can be nominated for post of the month even though it is 2017 now. Any takers????:money::D:j

I guess I was mainly bringing the point to MSE Andrea's attention.
You would think she would have known what that arrow does...

I'm not sure that MSE Towers still does 'post of the month'.
I don't recall anything about them for some time.

ETA: On doing a forum search (yes, I know it's not totally reliable :(), it seems that this April 2016 thread was the last one to be posted up.

    Is this a History thread?
    Who won? Before my time.
    Are you doing it again?
    How confusing!
  • Hi!

The Forum and Social Media team shifted focus onto our social media accounts from April so this hasn't been on the to-do list.

As much as I love doing it and would like to start doing it again now we have extra resource on our team, if you look back, we didn't get many nominations on the threads when we did do it so we have to weigh up whether it's a good use of our time to do it.

Tell us what you think (within reason Mandelbrot!)

    Should we do it more?

Would bringing back the old £50 prize encourage you to post up more fab MoneySaving in the first place and nominate other peoples' threads?
