WEEK 1 challenge-Your health to start each Friday (tomorrow!!!!)

In this section we get to grips with all those regular check ups we have been avoiding. e.g. Opticians, Dentists, Find out if you are due for any general screenings or vaccinations. Regular check ups are important could save your life. This would have filled me with dread about 2 months ago, but I am proud of myself for facing up to intense dislike of the dentist over the last 2 months. I am now booking hygienist appts more regularly than needed to keep the good progress up. Its been a long psychological battle! I do have a few admin things to do - get new contact lenses etc, and also need to book a docs appt for something minor but niggily. I strongly strongly echo Bobs mention of smear tests though - they saved my life, and such a high proportion of people don't take up or keep on top of appts if they move house etc. 5 minutes of uncomfortableness; a few years of reassurance. There is a lot of advice on https://www.jostrust.org.uk if you are nervous or unsure.

Eating habits can you do better
? Vegetables/fruit are cheap at moment with supermarket wars. Aim to eat at least 5 a day. Cut out sugary foods, save money and have perfect looking skin. Have you enough Iron, minerals in your diet? I could do better and will try!

Exercise If you able join in I am aiming to walk at least 1hr a day, can't afford gyms, exercise classes. Do want you feel comfortable doing, we don't want wounded turtles clogging up the naughty step. I will join you in the walking Calling. I have a Jawbone Up and have just signed up for the Bounts site to earn credits whilst walking. Every little helps :)

Have a pamper session at home pay attention to those feet, exfoliate use all the xmas pressies up. Skin will be on show soon. I am useless at sitting down and doing this. Blitzed my airing cupboard not that long ago and saved stuff, just need prompts to remember to use it!

    Keep your mind active
, jigsaws, reading, quizzing, chatting to new people, join local interest groups, whatever works for you. My mind is overactive, scheduling downtime is important for me to learn to do!

Finally I apologize now, I haven't gone mad with this challenge I want us able and ready to cope with everything life throws at us.We want you fighting fit for the financial challenges in the weeks ahead.:D
    Well done, I love it!

Hope you all don't run out the door now:eek:
Thank you Calling! Happy April folks. Here we go!

Crazy_lady well done facing up to the dentist. I keep asking for a smear test but apparently when you reach ripe old age of 50 they are done every 5 years. I lost my sister in law 2 years ago to cervical cancer so know all to well the cost of not having tests done.

Glad you like the challenge so far.

Just back from another 3 mi run and now a healthy salad with tuna at my desk, good start to the first week's challenge.

crazy_lady well done on facing your fear. In this country I don't mind the dentist as you go for a check up first and then can mentally prepare yourself for what's to come at the next appointment. In Germany you went for a checkup and they did the treatment needed right there and then. So you never knew what you went in for.

Also agree with the smear test. Over that quickly but so important. If they'd offer them every year I'd go. Also lost a friend in her 30s to cervical cancer

Really sorry for your loss Calling. I signed a petition recently about extending the age limits (both ways). Jos also have a campaign to increase awareness of / make the process easier for women with learning difficulties. It seems they are more likely to miss screening tests and as I know, you might not notice yourself until its very advanced. I will stop hijacking the thread with cc links now - having hopefully prompted a few folk to check when their next is due...and the blokes here - encourage and make it easy for the women you love to go.

I'm quite proud of myself for this because now it's just second nature to do this every month.

End of last month I had major problems with those little shops that add up so today I will be auditing the fridge, freezer and cupboards which is actually a favourite job of mine that I should do more often,, in order to recognise what we need and don't need! Thought becoming vegan would make this easier but I still have to buy sausages for the kids and milk and cheese!

Well done with becoming second nature! And my cupboards definitely need your inspiration. Its a job I hate!

Busy day - in town this morning with 4 little ones to do a few messages and importantly to post the cheque that will clear me of my next clothing account (£921)plus an overpayment on my mbna card(£76.00). :j

Purchased a French nail kit. Will give this a go tonight once little ones are all tucked up in bed. In fairness I'll probably make more mess than the kids!

On the fitness/weight end I'm doing well. 9.5st and a healthy size 10. Keep fit class once a week and general running after kids keeps me supple. Will aim to do daily morning stretching and toning work. Will be aiming to max my five a day and trying to generally look after myself a bit better.

When I get everyone back to school/nursery I am going to get an appointment for an eye check up. It's 4 years since my last one.

So, one debt paid off. One over-payment on cc. Next week will be an over-payment on one of the mortgages. Feeling very pleased with myself. Really glad I've signed up to join everyone in this April Challenge.
    On a mission!

    Hi everyone
It's looking like I'm starting April with a nsd. I have been to the butchers and the kids have been to gymnastics, but both budgeted for and cash put to one side yesterday so I'm not counting it. :D I won't declare just yet because it's only 5pm and I have to take ds to football training, so anything might happen (although I hope not)
I've been mad busy all day - housework, batch cooking, planning and getting the kids to and from their sports clubs. Feel as though I'm doing quite well though. Headache has cleared, food is well planned and I'm staying active. That's all that needs to be at the moment. My birthday present is due to arrive tomorrow (a Fitbit) so I'm planning to get obsessed with that as well :D
I've also managed to get some crochet done. A lovely lady paid me for something I made and she liked, so I'm trying desperately not to spend that cash on more wool and to just put it towards savings or something... :rotfl:

polly - read the first paragraph of you post and thought, wow what a lucky person!

bob - didn't realise that your contractions started mid school run! You are super-mum!

erin - wow, great start to the month!

ccl - if you (or anyone else) wants to be friends through fitbit, we could share daily/weekly challenges on their. Just pm me if you want to as I think we need to exchange email addresses.

Today has been good and naughty. Naughty - I lost a SFD as had a drink and cake at a garden centre with a friend (and the cake is naughty for my diet). Good - I went tutoring, and sent the money straight to my debt. I sold another item on ebay, posted it and paid the money straight to my debt. I have also nearly done my 11000 steps already (walked the dogs and to the post office) and am about to start batch cooking and then freezing meals for the rest of the month.

I can't remember if I posted this on the other thread but have had a builder round yesterday and he thinks my house doesn't have subsidence :) I am going to have to go into more debt to get all the necessary house repairs done (new roof, amongst others) but at least I will finally have something to show for my debts.
    LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)
New roof and car £8557/£19003 New kitchen £396/£5039 Credit card Paid Student loan Paid

Day 1 done and dusted, and an Nsd too. Got some decent ys items, for a change.

Food money now sits in an envelope.

    Today's exercise has been done.

End of month money shuffle has been shuffled and is nice and happy. I've also had a money chat with dh about a few things, which is always a useful thing to do. He is definitely spending very little :D. (Apart from on things we need - new washing machine, car insurance, and the like)
