I need to work much harder in all areas and need to go cold turkey on sugar, fat and salt. No use saying they are okay in moderation, it doesn't work for me. Not a lot going for me but dogged persistence - I have done this before, I can do it again, for as long as it takes.

Cutting out salt and sugar is fine. Don't go completely cold turkey on fat though. It will be hard to avoid 100% anyway but you also shouldn't. Some fat is needed for a healthy diet. One good reason is for instance some vitamins (A, D and E) are only fat soluble which means without some fat your body can't make use of them. Also some fats can't be made by our body like omega-3. So keep some oily fish, olive oil and/or nuts in your diet.

Wow. Pleased to see so many challengers. Apparently it's a bale of turtles.
Welcome every one of you, new, returning and experienced challengers. Apparently turtles never grow old - so here's hoping?

The countdown is on. You have one day only to get your act together, set budgets, set alarms early for all that extra exercise and to get in the mindset needed for this challenge. Hope your ready and able

Speky Squarehead think your not the only one with head buried in the sand, I have just be cruising along here for far too long.

Cybertortoise - Don't you learn by breaking a few rules? oops not encouraging it however.

MrsC....tobe well done on achieving so many SFD - let us in on your secrets.

Clippy_girl enjoy your holiday, I have given you a number so you can join the merriment when you are around. Enjoy Asia, my daughter is still there, bit homesick but loving the experience.

Mothernerd like the idea to do things as a family, something we take for granted.

Pollygarter Bob is annoyingly so good at this debt busting makes me look bad. Don't worry my debt went up last year as well, that's life but have shiney Mr Smeg fridge/freezer to show for it.

498louise Just give the challenge another go it me about 6 months to get into right frame of mind and many naughty step periods to actually to succeed at one. All here to help and laugh along the way.

Thriftylass - totally agree some fats are healthy and needed.

A little quote to get you on your way.

The secret of getting ahead is getting started - Mark Twain.

    Good luck everyone.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Yes please Bob n co! Bob's debt has gone down effectively whilst mine is heading off in the wrong direction. I need some goals and a naughty step threat!

    Hello Polly
Glad to see you here. The Turtles are a great bunch. NST and the PAD threads have both contributed hugely to keeping my nose to the grindstone. That and Small Things who I find fantastic for the daily reports on the little things that add up.
Don't beat yourself up. Good luck for April.

I have set my budgets/targets in my signature. Don't worry if you haven't got room just note them down. REVIEW budgets each Friday. There is five of them in April to see that you are on track. Jotting down all your expenditure helps just for any newcomers.

I weighed myself yikes 13st ( not expecting you to disclose your weight) if you want to look fab for summer just state weight you want to lose this month 7lbs for me.

WEEK 1 challenge-Your health to start each Friday (tomorrow!!!!)

In this section we get to grips with all those regular check ups we have been avoiding. e.g. Opticians, Dentists, Find out if you are due for any general screenings or vaccinations. Regular check ups are important could save your life.

Eating habits can you do better
? Vegetables/fruit are cheap at moment with supermarket wars. Aim to eat at least 5 a day. Cut out sugary foods, save money and have perfect looking skin. Have you enough Iron, minerals in your diet?

Exercise If you able join in I am aiming to walk at least 1hr a day, can't afford gyms, exercise classes. Do want you feel comfortable doing, we don't want wounded turtles clogging up the naughty step.

Have a pamper session at home pay attention to those feet, exfoliate use all the xmas pressies up. Skin will be on show soon.

    Keep your mind active
, jigsaws, reading, quizzing, chatting to new people, join local interest groups, whatever works for you.

Finally I apologize now, I haven't gone mad with this challenge I want us able and ready to cope with everything life throws at us.We want you fighting fit for the financial challenges in the weeks ahead.:D

Hope you all don't run out the door now:eek:

Regular check ups are important could save your life. All up to date, currently having treatment at the dentist, need a root canal but the nerve is determined not to die or become subdued enough for him to do it, currently on antibiotics again before I go back for the 4th time to see if the pain has lessened enough for him to do it. I have also lost a filling but luckily!! as I've already paid for my root canal, filling should be included in the same lot of treatment so I shouldn't have to pay anymore. Sorry TMI!

Exercise If you able join in I am aiming to walk at least 1hr a day, can't afford gyms, exercise classes. Do want you feel comfortable doing, we don't want wounded turtles clogging up the naughty step. I want to do at least 7000 steps a day to get my Bounts points and 10000 at least 3 times a week.

Have a pamper session at home pay attention to those feet, exfoliate use all the xmas pressies up. Skin will be on show soon. Just sorted out all the bottles in the bathroom and have loads of bits to use up!

I'm a Group Scout Leader so doing the paperwork, meetings, chatting to new people, etc probably covers that.

Regular check ups are important could save your life. I got a letter from my doctor saying that I will have to register elsewhere because I am no longer in the catchment area so will need to do that. Everything else up to date.

Eating habits can you do better
? Vegetables/fruit are cheap at moment with supermarket wars. Aim to eat at least 5 a day. Cut out sugary foods, save money and have perfect looking skin. Have you enough Iron, minerals in your diet? Definitely need to do better with this one.

Exercise If you able join in I am aiming to walk at least 1hr a day, can't afford gyms, exercise classes. Do want you feel comfortable doing, we don't want wounded turtles clogging up the naughty step. Should be ok with this one, I walk to and from work every day (about 40mins each way) plus go to the gym. I've also recently signed myself up for a 5k to get me motivated to run again.

Have a pamper session at home pay attention to those feet, exfoliate use all the xmas pressies up. Skin will be on show soon. Will have a look through my toiletries this afternoon, I'm sure I got a foot pamper kit for xmas so will hunt it down.
