A discussion with my DD about an incident at school.
4th lesson of day (2 lessons, break, tutor, 2 lessons, lunch 1 lesson), yr 8 (12/13yrs)
In lesson 4 - over half way through pupil asks can they go to the toilet, teacher says no, pupil asks again - no.
Apparently the head has decided that unless you have a toilet pass, tough luck..
apparently skiving, damage to property,- so blanket policy.
The pupil is not one that asks to go to the toilet, literally 1st request in almost 2 yrs...
Surely this can'rt be right...
...........
I appriciate that toilet visits can interfere with the class teaching etc, bit surely if its a desperate situ.
Very nearly an accident, - the pupil had bad cramps waiting to get to the toilet, was in discomfort and took nothing in of the lesson,

If you're concerned ask the school - in my experience at that age lots of kids exaggerate / dramatise.
I can't imagine how other kids would know the learning outcomes of another pupil.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -
When I was at school and my kids were at school they were expected to go during break. Any exceptions to this needed to be covered by a letter from Mum. You say yes to one school kid you have to say yes to them all and then you have a load of kids wandering around the school when they should be in lessons.
Have you seen the damage kids do to school toilets? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Don't understand how school can expect children to have a note prepared if you have an unexpected tummy upset or something.
When I was at school it depended on the teacher whether they'd let you or not. Most where fine but some always said no.0 -
Agree this is totally unacceptable, especially if they are female and of menstruation age.
The pupil should feel able to simply walk out and go to the toilet though. That is what bothers me most, the fact most wouldn't act in this very reasonable and mature manner.0 -
Most lessons are only about 50 minutes - surely you'd be able to hold on that long? And presumably if there was a genuine medical need it would be pretty obvious.0

As a teacher, I am expected to pee at break.
I know which kids have special toilet needs, and whom i will let go pee in lessons. The rest should be able to manage 2 hours without peeing, just like I have to.
I have had SO many kids tell me that they will wee their pants if I don't let them go. So far no one has.
The toilets near my classroom are really nice, so lots of kids ask to go!
They have a 20 minute break, so plenty of time to pee!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I had a pe teacher much like this and bearing in mind I was at school a very long time ago and we were in the sports hall with toilets built on to the block, I had asked several times can I go and each time he said no so in the end I went into the cupboard and peed against the wall which did raise a laugh against my fellow pupils but not the teacher in question.
Was dragged off to my head of year who did the routine of telling me off in front of the teacher but was a real nice person so asked me when he went to explain what happened and after hearing my side of it just allowed me to do one detention from this.
I know what some kids are like as well and maybe it is boredom in the classroom or seeking a ciggie in the toilet but in any event when you have to go you have to go regardless of someone that says otherwise and as for letting girls go as opposed to boys that is very unfair as we all are the same when it comes to needing the actual toilet and anyone holding this in will cause pains/issues long term if they do this on a regular basis.0 -
It happened to me when I was 7, 57 years ago. I asked to go, the teacher refused and I peed right where I stood. She was quite sympathetic though.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

So what if you take a sudden tummy upset or need to be sick? Would you just do it in the classroom?0
