Obviously the electorate think they're competent or they'd have been hammered in the most recent election less than a month ago.
What is it you're not getting? I'm quite bewildered that you think they do nothing. Would you care to expand or is it just your dislike that clouds your judgement?Leanne1812 wrote: »I did post a statement from the SNP. Are you saying they are lying? If so what's their motivation for doing so? Try not to revert to anything to annoy Westminster.
I didn't mean that the SNP never did anything but that, when it comes to it, they were good at doing nothing.
I hope you get the distinction.
The cracking business is a case in point, they've effectively kicked their decision into the long grass to avoid any bad vibes.
There is a lot of information on the safety/dangers of cracking; certainly enough to recommend one decision or another on whether to proceed according to the geology of the specific area. maybe they're waiting for the latest pub poll to guide their decision.Union, not Disunion

The whole point of the fracking vote was to 'prove' that Scottish Labour, Scottish Greens and Scottish Lib Dems are even more against fracking than the SNP is.
Same as the Airport Passenger Duty cut the SNP want to implement. Scottish Labour want to 'prove' they're more left wing and green than the SNP are. The 50p top rate tax vote is to 'prove' that Scottish Labour are more socialist and left wing than the SNP are.
Scottish Labour are trying to move Scottish politics so far to the left, already a very crowded market in Scotland to get one over on the SNP.. that it will come back and bite them royally in the proverbial the next time they have to passionately argue their case...for staying under a profoundly more right wing Westminster ( Tories ) and UK overall. All to score a few points here and there ?

Made me laugh
You didn't address my question as to whether you meant trouble was ahead for Tories and Labour in Scotland or in the UK
In any case, it's just a matter of political strategy and you comments on that and public reaction are just through the prism of your own political stance and hopes; just an opinion untouched by what actually lies behind S Tories and S Labour thinking. I wish we had some of those posting here to give some insight.Union, not Disunion

Both. For the Tories the 'anyone but the SNP and don't mention we're Tories' strategy has only garnered 22% of the vote. The next Tory leader will expose that particular faultline. In any case, it's just a matter of political strategy and you comments on that and public reaction are just through the prism of your own political stance and hopes; just an opinion untouched by what actually lies behind S Tories and S Labour thinking. 05/06/2016Scottish Labour launches consultation on whether to become 'independent' party
The consultation states: “There are a number of reforms that could be considered to deliver the vision set out in the Leaders’ joint statement. Some of these are discussed below, but members, CLPs and affiliates are free to add further issues in their discussions.
“Other than the status quo, there are a number of broad approaches to reform. At one end of the spectrum is further devolution from the UK party and at the other, the creation of an independent Scottish Labour Party.
“In between is a ‘federal-type’ option where members belong to the Scottish Labour Party first and foremost, and agreement is reached over which matters and procedures are best shared on a UK basis.”
They're killing off their own unionism to stay relevant in Scotland. They're in a limbo/transtition state just now with too many old school members who will never countenance a split with the UK party and want unionism at any cost. But newer and more realist members and MSP's coming through, just aren't so convinced that Scottish Labour should be cannon fodder any more, and definitely NOT in order to keep Conservative governments in power at Westminster. It'll take time to work through, but coming third behind the Tories in Scotland was a huge wake up call to a lot of Labour voters and party members.
I've posted lots of links to Labour thinking. There's a fair amount of UK Labour that think Labour should give up on Scotland and that a deal with the SNP should be thrashed out now. That Labour should concentrate entirely on winning England back. The barrier to that is Scottish Labour.. who are clutching their pearls in horror at the very suggestion. Labour 'thinking' is all over the internet, the Independent, New Statesman and Labour Hame.
You must've missed them. Enjoy the below as an example. There's been a few recently. My posting history on this thread is available if you want to read a few more.

Normal logic would have it that the SNP would vote against the motion but that would have meant siding with the dreaded Tories. I wonder they would have done if the Tories had abstained.
As it stands their lack of respect for the Scottish Parliament is clear.Union, not Disunion

Normal logic would've meant you'd actually read the thread. The reasons for the SNP abstain were made clear a page or so back I'm afraid. It was nothing to do with the Tories. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

It was Labour, Lib Dems and Greens that voted against fracking. You seem to have all your Scottish political parties mixed up. Join us in the real world once again when you've sorted them all out in terms of how they voted. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

No the SNP have the power in holy rood and could determined the outcome of that vote - they could have swung it either way.
You seem to have fallen for their trick that by abstaining it wasn't their decision - but they in effect voted to ban franking.
I think the SNP know Scotland needs tracking to stand any chance of fiscal independence but because of its negative perception amongst the ignorant they were too scared to make the right but difficult decision for fear of denting their popularity
I've said before and say again on the back of this that the only interest of the SNP is their Own power hence the incoherent policies and lack of leadership - all they do is attach themselves to whatever is likely to be popular.
Dodging the issue on something as important for Scotland as tracking is pathetic - any party who at its core wants a prosperous and independent Scotland should have been all over tracking and using its influence and leadership to address the concerns of its electorateLeft is never right but I always am.0 -
Yes Mistermeaner, you have it right there, all is consumed in a fug of tribal fervour, with boxes that they want to tick
o. Will it keep their acolytes happy
o. Can it be spun to foster enmity between Scotland and the UK
o. Can it further the glorious dream of Natland
And so on
I wonder if they actually have a box of the type
o. Is it good for ScotlandUnion, not Disunion
