The fracking vote seems like a complete waste of money and time. Why vote on something that you can't do anything about? Is the economy of Scotland so good that they can just afford to wee away a load of cash on an undergraduate-style gesture?

To be fair, the country's got a fault line running through it and it's already the most earth tremor-prone part of the UK.

These things are relative though, Scotland is hardly San Francisco or Tokyo. Anyway, what's the point in having a vote on something that you can't do anything about?

The SNP did the right thing and stayed out of it IMHO.

All energy production carries risks. Scotland's the only part of the UK to have a lot of uranium. If it's stable enough for fracking it could certainly expand its nuclear power.

If tiny Taiwan thinks it can support 8 atom plants, Scotland could surely manage a few more. The rUK presumably believes the same if they already think it's a safe harbour for a nuclear missile shield. Oil needs to be a source of pharmaceuticals, not fuels.

Future generations will simply not believe we burnt petrol as fuel. It will look as bonkers as if we gave out antibiotics like they were Smarties,

I agree what on earth were labour thinking ... maybe trying to fool people ( like I nearly was ) into thinking they can make the changes needed, whilst trying to get us to forget they actively campaigned against us having the powers ? How many though will believe their rubbish ?

It's as if they don't quite get the fact that Scotland doesn't have those powers .... thanks in part to their efforts ...

Iain Gray and the usual suspects have been all over twitter with this. But I for one am having serious trouble with Scottish Labour's sudden turn to all things 'green'.

This was him in May 2014. Check out the last sentence in particular.

Scottish Labour are really going for it with the left/green vote. Aided by the usual media spin. The SNP won't willingly allow fracking, too many in Scotland are against it, too many of their own MSP's and MPs are on record being extremely vocal of their opposition to fracking and not least, their voters and members would desert them in droves. If Scotland is to frack, the orders will be given, and Holyrood over ruled from elsewhere.

They did the right thing abstaining. Labour were rubbing their hands in glee thinking they would vote against this ( Labour ) motion. Instead all they've got is headlines saying the usual 'SNP accused'. I'm getting heartily sick of the whole thing to be honest. But one thing I do know is that Scottish Labour have flip flopped on policies such as this one so often, that it must be difficult for anyone to trust a word they say anymore.

They're onto APD now. They're using the Greens ( already and obvious objections on many environmental issues ) to back them up imo. Harvie wants to be very careful with this going forward. It's Scottish Labour that get the 'credit' for this sort of politcing and 'SNP accused' in Scottish media headlines, not the Greens. They'll hardly get a mention. However I doubt there will be many SNP voters enjoying seeing Harvie and his MSP's siding with Scottish Labour every vote going either. And Scottish Labour are lining up all the environmental votes and motions they can find at the moment.

    Careful Patrick ! :)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Aye I am a bit concerned about it all

    This about sums it up.;)
Summary: Parliament votes to stop something happening which Scots government had already stopped from happening.

Erm how did the Scots Government stop companies doing something that it isn't in their power to stop them doing?
