I know. You'd think after a decade in power for the first time in devolution history being the party getting over a million votes in the FPTP section, 24/7 media scrutiny on every aspect of their policies and effects.
That the voters would've noticed all these catastrophic failings in every aspect of public services by now wouldn't you.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
I suppose that's one argument against Scottish independence.:)TrickyTree83 wrote: »Stumbled right into that one.

Scotland's deficit should be slowly decreasing as exports rise thanks to improved free trade opportunities AND increased exports of sustainable power and water to the rUK.
We all know how much Scots produce is potentially possible to trade in increased amounts with a diverse range from tartan to farmed fish.
There are huge market possibilities in Commonwealth countries as well as globally; for just one example Scots are the 3rd largest ethnic group in Canada. A genuine Scottish tartan kilt would I'm sure be coveted by many.
The standard of living should remain comparable with rUK - provided the SNP don't continue to slowly destroy what we have whilst pushing Whitehall for more and more concessions before having a fully accountable plan of action for these concessions.
PLUS the SNP must (to maintain even our current standards) devote much more time and energy to government and budget in order to correct the shortfalls and reverse the decline of recent years.
Scots schools and universities were for example once (and not too long ago) the envy of the world. Edinburgh for example was known as THE veterinarian university globally for many, many years. Whilst those days may never be seen again, there is I'm sure scope for more than a little improvement.
We have the possibilities.
What we do not have is a cohesive plan to make the most of these opportunities, and the SNP are actually hindering rather than helping.
To blame Westminster's control for Scottish shortcomings without acknowledging the SNP's involvement in making at least some of these shortcomings more severe is naive.
You seem to acknowledge that Scotland has the potential to succeed but think we should leave the running of things to Westminster who has decimated Scotland over the last 40 years whilst taking £330bn in oil revenue alone and created boom town London while Scots are constantly falling behind.
This was happening long before the SNP got into power.0 -

And how much have the Scots taken from the rest of the UK since the Barnett formula was introduced in the 1960s? About £330bn at a guess.0 -

How much are we expected to pay to remain in this incredible market?
You answer that and show how much better off we will be under the rule of Brussels aka Berlin and I will vote for independence.Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. - Albert Einstein.

The SNP has been in power for nine years now. Remind us what has happened to the NHS, Education, taxes and Police Scotland under their governance? Why are they so intent on concentrating on this one manifesto point and not the others they made and failed to deliver?0 -
Other manifesto points included 50% income tax, a mansion tax and other measures desugned to hit the very people that Sturgeon now wants to go to live and work in Scotland.0

Why do you ignore the rest of the UK? .... Manchester; Leeds; Cardiff; Belfast. Exeter; Hull; Newcastle ...etc etc
Don't you realise that you are insulting the rest of us outside London?
You imply that it is only the Scots that are aware of the problems of a London-centric economy. It simply is not the case.
This is *not* evil London in operation. It is a byproduct of decades of credit markets driving the world economy.
You will hear similar complaints from people in the regions of USA or France complaining about New York or Paris. It's wider than London.
Brexit is actually the biggest wake up call to Westminster that the people outside the affluent centres of the UK actually have a say in matters.
If we actually solve the economic growth problem for a place like Sunderland, we solve it for a place like Glasgow. We have shared challenges, and there isn't a simple solution.0 -

Pretty much
We never suggested that the proceeds of 'King Cotton' in the past should benefit only the North West.
We didn't restrict the income from coal to spending in Wales and Yorkshire either.
These are UK resources.
If fracking on the Fylde coast delivers big returns the money will end up in UK coffers too.
It's daft to suggest that oil is no different as a shared resource.0 -

You posted a load of old BS. I point out that Scotland runs a fiscal deficit of almost 10% of GDP, and you say that I'm "quoting general figures that don't take a lot of things into account". That's just pure 100% waffle. A meaningless string of words designed simply to avoid the issue.
Time to wake up and smell the coffee.:)0
