Meh, I'm waiting for this influx to Scotland of the desperate-to-remain-in-the-EU.
Because for the last *insert number here, ranging from decades to centuries* years twice as many Scots have left Scotland as those of the rUK have moved TO Scotland.
And there is so much in Scotland to encourage that move isn't there, apart from our stunning scenery?
High-paid work opportunities galore? Where, please?
Evidence of better-run councils, NHS, schools and government? Where?
Evidence of a better standard of living than south of the border? Where?
And all this to apply to an independent Scotland - which will have what currency?
What planned budget?
What evidence of the possibility of being an EU member?
No, you will stand about as much chance of encouraging what EU-loving English there are to Scotland by telling them they'll be food for our midges Nicola!0 -
We've already debunked this as a lot travels South of the border before being shipped to Europe.
.
If it's an EU export it will surely be recorded as such. If it goes to an rUK company who add some value and then export it, then it still attracts tariffs when it passes the Scottish/english border. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -

+ Big brother watching you with rejigged Named Person Scheme (they are still struggling with taht one)
+ ID cards via the back door - Young Scot Card (big brother again)
+ Becoming one of the most centralised countries in the world (North Korea had better look out)
They also think they are going to catch the heavy hitters with increased tax rates. The real heavy hitters have already got their properties South of the Border sorted and will just move the domain of their assets South.0 -
So, we might be having general election on Star Wars day. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

...The whole thing is that change is needed and we will never gain our self respect under a system where we are in the top 2 or 3 contributing regions but accused of spending the Souths money....
Scotland is in the top 2 spending regions. (Only beaten by NI. And at least they have a good excuse.:))

It's the difference between income and expenditure that matters most. In Scotland's case that is almost 10% of GDP. Scotland is spending the south's money. It is not an accusation, it is a fiscal fact.
You should at least be honest when arguing the case for independence and admit that it will come with a cost. £8bn is a lot of money0 -
People are not going to move to a newly independent country unless they were seriously financially incentivised.
I'd even think again about keeping savings in a Scottish bank. There are plenty of non-Scottish alternatives, with competing products but much much less risk.
This is not anti-Scottish. It's just basic common sense.0 -
Yep, the irony of saying that they think they can manage better whilst being unable to manage the budget they currently have. Nat genius at its finest.
The open invite to pay more tax as they're already the highest taxed region of the UK, no one will go except people who are so pro EU it's to their own personal detriment, so not many then. People will in fact leave Scotland for warmer and more hospitable economic and natural climates. Why live in Edinburgh or Glasgow if you can live in Rome, Paris or Milan? Sturgeon and others might think Scotland is the best and people will want to go there but if that were the case you'd have had higher immigration over the 40 years of the EU that we've had. And that hasn't happened. Why is there this collective delusion in Scotland? It covers so many areas and issues and the Nats are so obviously wrong on many but refuse to acknowledge otherwise.0 -

You're quoting general figures that don't take a lot of things into account.
Yes, there would be hard work ahead but look where we are under Westminster control. Scotland is very resourceful and we wouldn't look back after the initial settling in.0 -

It doesn't take a genius to see that no matter how resourceful Scotland is, we cannot come anywhere near maintaining the standard of living that we currently have in an independent Scotland.
Much though I personally wish otherwise.
To think that we can is delusional, pure and simple.0 -

We need independence to change all that though tricky. We will never make progress under Westminster control. Even an English Nat can see that.
We would have far more chance of attracting people from the EU if we are actually in the EU in one way or the other.
Our alternative is to stay in the UK with it's Nat inward thinking and shutting off to the World.
What would our expenditure be then?0
