The only thing that's ever been 100% completely dependent on oil prices for the last 2 or 3 years... is the unionist argument. No harm in pointing out just how flimsy that one is now and again.
Hamish posted 'oil'.. he missed out 'gas', 'investment' 'confidence' and 'wind'. Hamish and people like him will never be convinced of any political or economic argument in terms of Scottish independence.
Still, the SNP now have five full years in power now. To see what they can do to change those soft no's minds. Good news on the oil, gas, wind, investment and confidence fronts will help that along a bit I daresay. So much future potential there for Scotland. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

So the new plan is to play the teachers and nurses with confidence. I'm sure that fills them with, erm, confidence.
The gas price is at levels seen in the 90s so you better hope that you can write cheques with confidence or that Londoners don't get fed up paying for your socialist fantasies.0 -
Love tangle MP's trysts in hotel paid for by taxpayer: Senior SNP figure repeatedly claimed expenses for luxury room where he indulged in extra-marital affair with lover
-Angus MacNeil claimed expenses for luxury four-star Westminster hotel -It came while SNP MP was indulging in extra-marital affair with journalist -45-year-old has since split from wife after hotel trysts with Serena Cowdy -Miss Cowdy, 36, has moved onto having affair with fellow MP Stewart Hosie
Whooops.
The sleaze just keeps piling up.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Cheating MP dubbed Scottish John Major!
Nicola Sturgeon yesterday failed to throw her support behind deputy SNP leader Stewart Hosie after it emerged he had cheated on his wife – one of her closest friends. The SNP leader embraced Shona Robison in a public display of affection that left no doubt whose side she was taking in the humiliating love triangle that has rocked her party.
Miss Sturgeon declined to say she still had confidence in Mr Hosie. And her MPs were overheard describing him as the 'John Major' of the SNP in a reference to the former Tory prime minister's affair with Edwina Currie.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Gas and oil could be at record prices and you'd still be spouting the same stuff. However, it does reinforce the point that gas, oil, wind power and investments aren't going anywhere soon.
There's no new plan. I just thought I'd wind you and Hamish up.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Who cares. If we were to start listing every single sex scandal politicians of all colours have been involved in we'd be here all day. And he didn't claim expenses for 'illicit trysts' either. We've already been through McNeil's expense arrangements before on the other thread.
Still, good to get all this stuff out of the way early on in a full five year term imo. We'll have the Named Person's bill, the OBFA, APD and the budget/council taxes debates and votes soon. Since the Tories, Lib Dems, Greens and Labour are all absolutely desperate to prove something or other asap. After that I'm not quite sure what the other parties will have left to keep moaning about for the next 4 and a half years.
Is the Greens that are going to have the trickiest time of it I think. though Ruth Davidson might be in for a bit of a hard time from all sides too.THIS week, following the elections in which, according to the Unionist press, the Ruth Davidson Look at Me I’m Riding a Buffalo Whoo Hoo Ruth Davidson Party won by coming a very distant second,It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Not really. I wouldn't be talking about how the gas price is about where it was 25 years ago if it wasn't about where it was 25 years ago. We established you make this stuff up but I don't.Shakethedisease wrote: »There's no new plan. I just thought I'd wind you and Hamish up.
How did that go for you? I must say I didn't notice anything. HAMISH may feel differently of course.0 -

Total's boss seems to know what's what anyway. I'll take his word for it. Re oil there's no ceiling and there's no floor. As for what we've established, Above I posted links from the FT. I certainly didn't make any of it up."The price is what it is," said Mr Pouyanne. "The price is lower today... but we knew that when we invested there would be ups and downs. Our job now is to get the most out of these assets."
"We are still continuing to invest in additional discoveries that will be put on stream in 2017-2018 which will give additional revenues from this plant," he said.
Looking to the future, Mr Pouyanne warned that volatility in oil prices would continue.
"The price of oil is never stable," he said.
"We made a mistake in the industry when we were at $100 a barrel... we [thought] it is a sort of floor. Today people think there is a ceiling. There is no floor, no ceiling, it will move up and down."How did that go for you? I must say I didn't notice anything. HAMISH may feel differently of course.
Small steps, but as far as all energy extraction ( oil, gas, wind etc ) is concerned Scotland wise, there's cause for a degree of optimism about the future. If the oil price does by any chance rebound back up ( no ceiling ) watch those polls won't you.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

But the plant would never have been built if the current price levels had been forecast. As a consequence has to put a positive spin on a disastrous investment for the Company. Someone somewhere will be footing the bill.0
