That's a question only the Scots can explain, uniquely in the Union every time they've been asked the question they've opted to stay.
I'm trying to work out why the SNP would remove itself from one Union where its influence is considerable to one where it's stated aim is to reduce the power of national governments as part of an ever closer Union.
More to do with the fact that Westminster controls more of Scotland's tax take than Brussels does, by a country mile.A case of anyone but the English perhaps? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Anyone but the English what.........? Call me old-fashioned, but I like to put a verb in my sentences.;)
I don't it.
It's probably because the scots feel so guilty about sponging off the people of Yorkshire all these years, they look forward to supporting all the poor countries of Europe.0 -
I suspect that this is the real driving force behind most Nationalists. Almost every Nationalist group I can think of defines itself by who they are not almost as much as who they are.
You might want to be looking in before looking out.Sunday 15 May 2016 Tristram Hunt
Pollsters regularly ask people whether they feel English only, English and British, or just British. Over the past decade we have seen a tectonic shift, with the English-only group expanding as the British-only group shrinks. More people now feel English-only than British, with more than 70% choosing English either as their preferred or shared identity...
A failure to appreciate the value of Englishness played an important role in our 2015 defeat and nothing Corbyn has done as leader has changed this. Indeed, his cosmopolitan views on immigration, benefits, the monarchy and armed forces are likely to have exacerbated the disconnect...
..So there are obvious reforms for Labour to pursue: an English Labour party; a referendum on an English parliament; radical devolution to cities and counties. Alongside that, we have to be careful during the EU referendum campaign not to alienate those millions of Labour voters opting for Brexit. But more than that, what these tales from the 2015 campaign expose is Labour’s need to shed its metropolitan squeamishness about England. It needs to express its admiration and love for the people and culture of this great country.
Apart from that it seems some high rankers in English/UK Labour are of the opinion Scottish Labour is of no further use. And English Labour should move closer to UKIP ideology.
Your grasping at straws anyway. Politics is shifting, Scotland and England are in a political union almost half of Scots want out of, as well as an increasing number of English. This will be amply displayed at the next General election when the Conservatives will replay the 'No SNP/No Scots MP's here in London Westminster' card even harder than they did last time. With a lot of English Labour MP's such as Mr Hunt above nodding along in agreement.
Again, this is only going one way. Scots MP's out of Westminster altogether. They're of no further use to the Labour party, and the threat of Scottish MP's that aren't Labour or Tory only serves to bump up votes for the Tory party come election time. Just about all current Scottish MP's at the moment would only be too happy to agree and leave.
The economic fall out will be just have to be dealt with when it inevitably happens. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

There's a hammer horror movie where a bunch of people are forced to relive their last days again and again. Forever.
On the positive side it's entertaining to watch project fear part 2 starring Mr Carney and a variety of EU jobsworths prattling irrelevant nonsense no-one claims to have asked them to.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Scotland's too poor to maintain current levels of spending. Independence would mean a big cut in living standards.0 -
