*waits for the 'but Spain' comments. Still, wonder who planted this story in the National. It sounds very like the LSE article about Scotland no longer being party to Article 50 if there's a vote for independence. Plus the 'holding pen' plan which came to light after the Brexit vote.

No idea if this is true or not, just thought it would raise a few blood pressures. ;)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

No. I was addressing your cavalier view that the UK means doing whatever England and Wales vote for regardless. Simply due to population counts. "Is about the UK this time".

You forgot the Act of Union. And you and kabayiri wittering on about Yorkshire means sadly you haven't the faintest understanding of it either.

You really have to move a few centuries forward.
I know you have a huge love for the murdering, vile killers of the past but the 21st century is about democracy: the votes of the people.

So concentrate of getting that all important 60% of scottish voters in favour of isccotland and stop being a loser concerned with bannockburn and hatred of the english.

No-one cares what happened hundreds years ago except a few fanatics in scotland and some deranged muslims :

No, the UK is the UK is the UK. A political union created by the joining of two countries. It doesn't matter in which century. Tricky and a few others here have forgotten what makes up the UK when they post about it sometimes. Never harms to point out the obvious. ;)

England and Wales voted one way, Scotland another in a UK wide vote. This doesn't mean Scotland's wishes don't count in a UK vote or that Scotland should have to 'wait it's turn'.

    Yes, yes it does.

We share a country, a sovereign nation state, which voted to leave the EU.

You're obviously going to tell everyone that Scotland is a country in a union, but that's not strictly true when the act of union removed all sovereignty from Scotland and bestowed it upon the United Kingdom. Scotland is as much a country as Catalonia, the reality doesn't suit your situation or narrative so I wouldn't expect you to agree and I will not expect you to keep attempting to state your alternate reality as fact.

    Comment from another MEP.

    They all have their opinions.

How can we even know if Scotland would qualify for membership? The EU keep moving the goalposts for membership, they want to swallow as many countries whole as possible. Membership of the EU would not be good for Scotland, I say once again, I thought they wanted to be independent? Joining the EU would mean that they cease to exist.

They would also have to qualify for the Euro, very unlikely.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

I think this guy in the Guardian today sums it up better than I can when he says...
But one thing is clear: the union state is not a unitary state, still less an English state. It would be outrageous to force Scotland and Northern Ireland to leave the EU in defiance of the wishes of their peoples. What is sauce for the English and Welsh leavers is also sauce for the Scottish and Northern Irish remainers.

I saw a piece on TV today - it was about La La Land. My initial reaction was to wonder what the SNP were now up to. Maybe grassy hillocks festooned with flowering thistles. I caught on quick what the piece was about but it did prompt the thought that I could maybe return to the fray with some modicum of humour.

First of all my thanks to those who expressed empathy with me directly or using the "Thanks" facility. It was, for info, about my daughter who was entering the last terminal stage of cancer after many years. She is still just with us but progressively less so. It is now about attrition; life, emotions and all between. A parent's worse nightmare.

At that earlier time I found it progressively more difficult to preventing my posts being affected with emotional overflow and had to stop. But as time shuffles on, all things get compartmentalised and I'll rejoin this fray of ours, if not so frequently.
    Union, not Disunion

Here's the meat of the article ( is paywalled for some ). Make of it what you will.
THE political will exists to give Nicola Sturgeon more than two years to make Scotland independent, enabling the nation to remain in the EU as a sovereign state when the UK leaves, according to an influential Brussels politician...

...“Tell me why there should be a problem? Right now Scotland is part of a full member of the European Union, which means it applies all of the EU legislation and fulfils the conditions,” he said. “Why should an independent Scotland not fulfil the conditions? To me it is quite obvious that if a new situation is created to change the constitutional order of the United Kingdom, Europe would not stand in the way of an independent Scotland being in the European Union.

“I believe it would inherit the UK’s membership. Primarily that is a political decision. If there is a political will, and I think it will be there, lawyers will find a way to make it legally happen.”

Lamberts believes Spain would not veto an independent Scotland EU’s membership over concerns it might stoke Catalan demands for independence. “No-one in the Spanish government wants Spain to leave the EU. You could not say that an independent Catalonia could inherit Spain’s membership – as Spain is not leaving. The situations between the UK and Spain are very different,” he said.

Lamberts said his views on Scotland and EU membership are shared by his fellow Belgian MEP Guy Verhofstadt, the European Parliament’s chief Brexit negotiator.

Must've cross posted. But so very sorry to hear about your daughter. I had similar news regarding my mother recently. :( Sometimes a bit of verbal banter and jousting on unrelated subjects takes ones mind off it and allows one to square shoulders and deal with things afresh as and when they happen.

It's good to see you back. I missed our regular verbal jousting.

ps I saw a cartoon a few days ago featuring Theresa May and Boris Johnson in a parody of the La La Land official poster. It made me titter. ;)
