Reading between the lines? oh, come on
I'm willing to accept that's the case.
But at the moment it sounds like more wishful thinking without any substance.

Like your emboldened headline "MSPs urged to back Scotland remaining within EU single market" - yes, "urged" by Keith Brown, the SNP MSP and Scotland's Economy Secretary.
Given their so-called "plans" and the current dire state of Scotland's economy, why on earth would anyone listen to his "urges"?
Erm, because they'll probably be asked to vote on it ? Like they were for Sturgeon to talk with the EU a few months ago.The Scottish Government has said it will bring forward proposals to keep Scotland in the single market even if the rest of the UK was not part of the trading agreement.
Yes, nicely played. Scottish Labour and Lib Dems will have to vote and/or publicly agree 100% with the SNP and Greens on keeping Scotland in the Single Market. Uniting the Scottish Govt ( apart from the Tories ) before Sturgeon presents the plans to May... for almost certain refusal. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

It certainly doesn't for SNP rampersIreland REFUSE to speak to Nicola Sturgeon over her plans to thwart Brexit...NICOLA Sturgeon’s bid to keep ties with the EU has been dealt another blow after Ireland said it would only hold formal talks with the UK Government.
Keep up.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

How do you argue with this sort of logic?
I won't even attempt to. As doesn't warrant a response. Today as I do every year, I visited Lydiard Park to pay respects to the previous generations of my family that lost their lives. Three of whom are listed on the Menin Gate Memorial. As were lost in action and their remains never identified.0 -

Looks lovely there. I recently discovered my great grandfather's grave - he died in an asylum after the 1st battle of Ypres. He was in a paupers' grave and his case was assessed by the CGWC - he got a war grave installed this year and added to the list of war dead, and I had the great privilege of picking the inscription. So I thought of him today, and felt sick when I read Effie Deans' post. It makes me quite angry that the media will not pick up on it.0 -

Scottish media is eating itself.
You're right about what would've happened should an SNP MP/MSP have liked or retweeted something from a borderline unhinged blog account like Effie's. Davidson gets away with it because the press are now too habitually attuned to the SNP increasingly so since 2011 to bother with anything else.
I gave up ages ago being surprised or even angry about it. It's just how it is, and how it will be until either independence, or the SNP start losing very big in the polls. It does feel now that a lot of the press are now simply echoing each other in order to feel relevant. But balanced cross party wide reporting and investigative journalism is long gone in Scotland. Commentators who made their names during the indy ref like Torrance reduced to writing the same articles week in week out. No matter what the news is, there's always an SNP angle shoe horned in somewhere.
I just find it boring these days. And amusing logging in here to see some getting all hysterical about the latest Express Sturgeon SLAP DOWN. The SNP are the same as any other political party with very good, and very bad points depending on one's perspective. Seeing it all presented from the bad, and no other party treated with anything like the same amount of scrutiny, or Ruth Davidson getting a free pass over something the papers would've been screaming for an SNP resignation over ?
Well, that's why we're all turning off and cancelling subs in droves over the last few years. It's actually Scottish Labour and their voters imo that's the key to independence, the press might be far better placed watching very closely what's going on there over the next year or so, rather than the SNP 24/7.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Interesting article ( long read ).England prepares to leave the world
Neal Ascherson
Scottish opinion polls are pretty stagnant, and campaigns to revive the old ‘Yes’ enthusiasm don’t yet seem to have much traction. But standing back from daily politics, you can watch Scotland’s place in the union growing steadily looser, almost month by month, as one shock or disappointment follows another. Like an old front tooth ready to drop out. ‘Aye,’ a friend said, ‘but where’s the tooth fairy?’It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
