Love how posting time dictates sobriety, I dare say shift work or just staying up doesn't occur to some people :rotfl:0 -

I read what you wrote but not that article because my browser could not open it. I doubt whether the author ever did a serious negotiation in their life, unless it all comes down to promoting a certain political line or sexing up the paper. In any negotiations one keeps cards tightly to one's chest and if there is a reason for some sort of disclosure it's normally because its already a done deal or there is some sort of misdirection intended.
The moans from parties, from MPs from Newspapers don't find ny sympathy with me at all.
... and no, I don't think the Scots are any more informed than anyone else; the problem with your collective is that you only believe what you say yourselves and can't address any valid critique.
I agree with your remarks, later on, though, that the Brexit lot and no clue what they were voting for; in that context it is not surprising that it takes so ling to prepare fore Brexit. However, as for timing, as I wrote before, Article 50 is likely to be activated early in the new year, not least because it will same a whole bunch of additional negotiations which will simply add to the workload (I refer to dividing up the contribution for part of a year and negotiating what part of the contribution comes back to the UK and what happens to common projects and so-forth).
As for Sturgeon, yes she is in a tricky position for the reasons I have given, and others no doubt. We shall see what she dares to do won't we.
I think Salmond had some hints for us today.Take, for example, yesterday’s headlines in our deadwood Unionist media, who wheezed that support for Independence was “only at 48 per cent”. Only 48 per cent? When I fired the starting gun on the 2014 referendum support for independence was at 28 per cent!..
However, there is no sign at all that the Westminster Government has even the vaguest notion of its own overall strategy, never mind summoning the statecraft and the flexibility to meet Scotland’s requirements or even acknowledging Scotland’s entitlements.
Therefore, matters will likely come to the touch once again. If I have to guess a date then I’d say that it is likely to be the autumn of 2018. And even on that two-year timescale there is much to be done. In the first vote, what began as a Scottish Government initiative transformed into a popular campaign. We should never forget that inspiration..
...Of course the Scottish Government should again publish a White Paper with comprehensive detail on the way forward. Scotland would have little time for the paper-thin vapours of the Brexiteers or of a Trump.
However, this time our prospectus should not be frightened of listing options of genuine policy choices that an independent state might wish to pursue.
To take a personal example, our presentation on key issues such as the currency should be much more like that which I laid out in the second television debate, rather than the first!
And this time round, the stakes are higher than before. Scotland faces a serious threat to our national interests, a much more direct and serious threat than Westminster’s grip.
We have been a European nation for nigh-on 1000 years. In this millennium we want Scotland to be socially just, economically prosperous and outward looking.

In my case it's a grandson. His dad took him to get a Thomas the Tank engine balloon yesterday... and walked out with a huge Elsa one instead lol.A_Medium_Size_Jock wrote: »http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/711517/European-Union-members-block-independent-scotland-bid
Yes I know it's The Express but this is being so widely reported, & the only links so far point to either that or the Daily Star.George Kerevan â€@GeorgeKerevan 6h6 hours ago George Kerevan
Not what I heard from bankers & politicians in Rome and Berlin this week. Just the opposite.Meanwhile, I note that the Tories are campaigning on the streets against another referendum whilst only 200 "supporters" attend the George Square rally I mentioned earlier in this thread.
Far from the numbers expected to attend, and given "George Square has been a focal point for grass roots Yes campaigners since the 2014 poll" it does seem that support for another independence referendum is waning.

Most certainly not; it is still there.
Re: the photo of George Square, here's another - from a less-flattering viewpoint maybe?
In any event, it's hardly heaving.
ETA - boy, you gotta really hunt for a EU flag eh?0 -

Writing books is not the same as negotiation.
As for Salmond's remarks they are no more than one would expect but I'll comment on the second paragraph. He wrote " ... there is no sign at all that the Westminster Government has even the vaguest notion of its own overall strategy, never mind summoning the statecraft and the flexibility to meet Scotland’s
Just the normal spin - "there is no sign" --- has he not realised the amount of work that is being done? Of course he does, he has been in the HoC and knows the huge effort that is underway. He just chooses to sneer and peddle untruths.
The rest is the normal navel gazing stuff but I'm curious about one thing, what is the currency proposal that he made in the "second television debate"?Union, not Disunion

And as I pointed out earlier and you seem to have missed again, it's the 18th today and the 2 year anniversary. Not the 17th.
Really?
Look, as I say in my original post:There will be a rally in St George Square, Glasgow on Saturday 17th September to mark the second anniversary of the independence referendum - and to show support for "indyref2".0
