This video seems to have gone viral today, the one where Nicola Sturgeon urges all people in Scotland to take "The National Survey"

    Video link

And here is the survey link.

I hope all people in Scotland get to answer it, otherwise we'll never really know what is actually going on and we'll be debating based on conjecture and personal beliefs.

Whatever happens, one thing is certain. The engine towards independence has started. At least the debate certainly has started.

    Exciting times ahead

wow, well meant, but incredibly naive.

I could fill this in now and make it up. Just need to use 192 or whatever it's called to pretend I'm someone from Scotland :D

You would need a unique email address, a Scottish address that also matches the first name and last name of the person living there and I doubt 192.com could give you that.

This form is meant to be used as an indicator. If the results are indicative, it can lead to a real referendum. But I think, since we love referenda so much, this is yet another "magnificent democratic exercise", as May has called it

I could be anyone from any major urban centre with common surnames.

I've already checked 192.com, sadly in the day of the internet I can pretend to be someone with the surname smith living in Aberdeen.

It's no use hiding the house number or the postal outcode. If you know the postal incode you can guess the house number and the get the actual full postal code.

And an email address as proof of identity, really? They would have been better off linking it to the Government Gateway ID.

    Sloppy IT work.

Edit: Having just referred back to the survey, you just need the postal code and a first name and last name. If you put the first initial and surname from 192.com it'll probably do the trick.

In fact who on earth are they employing to do this crap? I'd of done it for them if they'd paid me handsomely for it. Even being a unionist.

Brexit is same. It was like asking the people to decide whether to stay part of the EU without actually having an idea what life outside the EU would like like.

Crazy situation to argue the merit of the UK against an unknown. And now that it happened you are weathering the unknowns. And guess what, UK breaking apart is one of those many unknowns. You just have to accept it, if it happens, because you voted for it.

The future of the EU is unknown

there are about 160 countries outside the EU: many are doing alright.

I don't want to be part of a protectionist, anti free trade organisation which punishes its own people for political reasons.
I don't want to be part of an organisation that discriminates against black african countries.

haha, I looked and no, there's 3 people with the surname Clapton in Glasgow though!

Edit: oh and another 3 in Edinburgh, with partial addresses you can get. Should be able to google for the postcode from that.

This sort of system was used in the Holyrood election. To quite good effect all be told... by the Conservatives.
Ruth Davidson: How we became Scotland’s official opposition

...That meant a asking our candidates to put their egos to one side, help out in each others’ seats and stick to national messaging. With a bit of help and some fancy voter ID, we identified thousands of people across the country that didn’t vote Tory, but who could be persuaded to our message..

..We also focussed our efforts more tightly. Instead of sending literature to every single one of Scotland’s four million registered voters, we identified those most likely to respond to our message and returned to them again and again.
These were also the people we prioritised doorstep conversations with, striking anyone who was against so there was no wastage of future resource or effort. We also made sure the message was clear, simple and direct – and that the words I was saying on the television every night were the same as the words used by canvassers and in the literature that people received.

The survey isn't targeting solid yes or no voters but see that postcode thing and name and address on the survey ? ;)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Not to worry I imagine the Msp's etc will be very aware of what some of the posters on here are up to as well as the possibility others may be doing the same ... the fact I've informed some Mp's and Msp's and counsellors would indicate to me they are now aware ;)
