Britain voted to leave the EU = mandate to leave the EU.
Scotland voted to remain part of the union = mandate to stay in UK.
Surely that's easy enough to understand?
Unless and /or until a specific question is asked there can be no mandate.
It's strange that you suggest the thread goes around in circles and yet you yourself contribute to the effect - more than once.

For those of you who aren't in the loop with the meltdown of the SNP there is a great article here:-
SNP in Toxic Meltdown, discipline out the window, morals out the window, decency out the window, fresh calls for Derek Mackay to quit as he earns almost £5,000 since scandal and bad tempered Westminster group meeting about Mhairi Black’s activities and conduct, Mackay and Black have both crossed a line showing they are unfit for public office, neither have the decency to resign, how small Scotland has become represented by these people

One thing must be sacrosanct, politicians should be kept out of schools, they can not indoctrinate our children under the guise of education.

Stop kidding yourself on. There will never be any mandate good enough for Westminster to issue a section 30. Holyrood will have to go against Westminster in order to have an indy ref, it's just a case of when. And that's the biggest question mark we have on the issue. When.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?5 -

The thing is, the SNP isn't the independence movement. They were going to fall apart eventually though I assumed it'd be after independence when there was nothing else holding them together. If they split now, then I can't see many SNP voters just going back to the unionists, we'll probably end up with 2/3 new pro-independence parties and be in pretty much the same position.
Wishing the downfall of the SNP isn't going to help unionism. Providing good reasons to stay in the union might, and we'd be open to hearing them.6 -
Doughty Scots are like the dwarves from Lord of the Rings. They do not make decisions lightly or quickly. They deliberate. They are used to dark places and endless cold alleviated by roaring fires. They have waited, and they have seen the direction that England will take them.
With regret, they will abandon the old alliance, and strike out for themselves.4
