Try telling the EU that, or those remainers who have been saying the exact opposite for over 3 years in Brexit debate.

*Paying huge sums for so-called "free trade" as per Norway is NOT "free trade".

Norway pays a lower fraction of their GDP than we do.

It's also got freedom of movement in both the Nordic Passport Union and the Schengen area.

The key word is "pays". ;)
If you pay for something, it is not free.

Isn't it about time they got on with the day job of looking after the people instead of whinging about Westminster and rambling on about indy ?

It depends what you want from a free trade deal and what deal you're trying to get later. Brexit seems to be about cake and eat it "We want exactly what we have, but we don't want to pay anything or follow the rules". That then became Canada+++ or whatever.

We could take a Canada deal in the interim, which would hurt the financial markets until we rejoined, but is a whole lot better than WTO. If we started discussions to join, being that we're already fully aligned as members, then we should be able to trade as if we're in for up to (I think) 10 years.

I'm also talking about free as in unrestricted, if we need to pay into the pot to use the services that's fine, we'll get enough back from the trade to pay for it many times over.

    That's well out of date - 2018!
Meantime in the here & now in Scotland:
Record numbers wait more than 12 hours in Scottish A&Es
a near five-fold increase on the same period in 2018
    Another Sturgeon improvement then.

Why are you comparing anyway? I thought Scotland was supposed to be able to do things better on their own - a few percent won't cut it & neither will your failing education, crippled police & the rest. That's with a big "bung" from Barnett too, how the heck you think you'd cope in an EU that would remove that funding & make you a net contributor I don't know.

I'm certainly not saying our services are perfect, just that it's a really bizarre thing for (presumably) English commenters to be having a go at Scotland over since they are doing worse. It's actually still a good case for devolution/independence - how much worse would Scottish education/health/policing be if it was being run by the same people that are ruining the same services south of the border?

I don't buy the net drain thing either - Are you guys wanting to keep us part of the union out of a sense of charity?

    Decades of extreme austerity.

    Reduced levels of public services.

    Higher taxes.

Cut through all the propaganda and smoke screens and that's what the Nationalists want a majority of Scots to vote for.

And they say that WM are disrespectful to Scotland! :) They must think we are a bunch of gullible no-brains.

Yes but they WILL vote for it though and they have been repeatedly. Much to your annoyance :) The recent volley of hysteria over Scotland's public services is the usual stuff that comes out when the SNP seem to be doing a little too well ( in Elections and possible indyrefs ).

We've seen it all before, and it bears no reality to what's happening on the ground. Just politically motivated spun figures designed to make headlines.
NHS England have not released A&E performance figures now since their monthly return for November 2019. NHS Scotland release weekly figures and in the week ending 29 December 2019, they treated an astonishing 85% within 4 hours.
. If there really were all these constant NHS 'crisises' and public services were going to the dogs.. the SNP wouldn't get the votes they do. It's as simple as that.

High earners paying a tiny bit more in taxes get back so much more than they put in when it comes to free prescriptions, free tuition and and not having to sell houses to fund care in their later years ( it's free too ). Nothing's perfect of course but you're only presenting one side of the coin. I don't want my kids leaving uni with £21,000 worth of debt. Many feel the same and are happy to pay a couple of 100 quid more a year tax to put into the pot.

Still, things are hotting up nicely now aren't they ? Devolution has techincally just been ended about an hour ago. Also not letting Holyrood know budget plans so local councils can set tax rates is just the start. The SNP know there's little point in being at Westminster anymore. Lots of Scots feel the same way too.

Time to come home and get that ref called. Not long now. Boris or independence.. the clamour is growing by the day to get out.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Oh dear, only 3/10 for this effort at spin :)

Exactly the opposite is happening; pre election Independence felt like a sinister figure hiding round the corner at the end of the street, now it feels like a distant presence travelling at speed in another direction.

As far away as it's been in a long time :)
