I'd treat Scottish Independence the same as Brexit - 50.1% is clearly an undecided result, enough to investigate further and potentially try again later when the mood changes either way.

I'd much rather see a clear mandate (60/40). I think the original whitepaper even mentioned the majority needed to from voting public as a whole and not just the voters, which mean a much higher percentage on a lower turnout.

The simple majority rule was because the previous time they offered "Home Rule" the voting threshold rule meant not just the lazy and the uninterested but even the dead counted as "No" voters so no-one's falling for that trick any more.

^^^^^ It wasn't a trick....it was to ensure there was clear cut support for major constuitutional change; something that is unsatisfactory in a 50.1%/49.9% outcome.
  • Oh yes it was.....oh no it wasn’t.....(in best panto style).

I should have said almost no-one's falling for that trick anymore.

Incidentally if anyone wants to know where Michelle Mone ended up domiciled after threatening to leave Scotland if it went indy.....not just outside Scotland but also outside the UK, according to the house-buying sub-forum!

looking good for the SNP and Scotland today . in Scotland the Tories stood on a mandate of not to indy ref two, the snp stood on a mandate of no to brexit and yes to indy ref two

seems the SNP are the preferred choice

never thought I would say more pandas in Scotland than Labour MPs though ...
  • So the snp have a great night winning approx 4% of the vote share

That’s exactly how much airtime Scotland should get in parliament

Hopefully the snp can quietly get on with their referendum now and kindly leave the rest of UK alone and most importantly stop taking English taxes

So the SNP picked up 45% of the vote. the Tories share held up pretty well whilst the Labour party took a drubbing.

Going forward how many of those SNP voters want independence? Certainly not 100%

What remains clear the SNP still do not have a mandate for IndyRef II.

Do you not realise the whole is stronger than the separate parts?
