A few posts ago, I mentioned that I thought Sturgeon was trying to grab the votes of the EU nations living in Scotland. Well she followed up her letter to Cameron with one to EU Nationals in Scotland - SEE HERE
My personal opinion on the issue is coloured by the fact that my Son lives in Holland and my daughter in Spain, both have lived in those countries for over 20 years. They have UK Nationality. So naturally I don't want them being a bargaining chip for the EU during the Brexit negotiations. Particularly in Spain, the situation could be fragile, what with Gibraltar and all.
That is why I wrote what I did (see below) which states that, given satisfactory reciprocal arrangements, EU nationals will be allowed to stay and work in the UK. Note, in case you missed it, my wording states that the right is there only if they remain in the UK. An independent Scotland would not be in the UK and they would loose that right is they stayed in a separated UK.
If Sturgeon want to pay such games I reckon we can as well and see no need to be particularly subtle about it here. Not that anyone in Government is reading this of course!
"The UK Government can assure EU citizens currently resident in the UK that they will continue to be able to remain resident in the UK to work and enjoy the benefits of the UK welfare system, inclusive of Pension Rights (if applicable) while they remain resident in the UK, subject to satisfactory reciprocal arrangements being agreed with the relevant country in the EU."
In summary, British citizens living abroad need to be protected, not just EU citizens living in the UK. And as far as Scotland is concerned we should not give an assurance which will give the UK a never-ending liability due to Sturgeon playing party politics with the issue.
By the way - does anyone here have relatives living in the EU? Any Scots?
I was saying the same to people who were slagging May off about not committing to allow EU migrants to stay in the UK right now.
That would be foolish if we're seeking to secure the rights of UK residents in the EU. There should be a duty on both side of the negotiating table to secure the rights of both sets of citizens. Not allowing discussions to take place prior to article 50 is a horrendous decision from Junker. He's a weapons grade tool.0 -

Why not adopt the nationality of their new homes? Then they could influence local politics by voting.0 -

Because they don't want to. My Son actually applied for Dutch Nationality but stopped the application when they passed a law allowing only one nationality.
My Wife is Danish (In case you wonder I am British) , why should she become British? I hope we have not become so insular that our country would force such a thing upon someone.
I should add (it should be obvious from what I just wrote) that I think we will allow EU Nationals to stay anyway, but we should not admit to that yet.
I just noticed this by the way.

But given there's about to be thousands of companies with hundreds of thousands of employees, who collectively pay the UK treasury tens of billions of pounds a year, looking to relocate to a nation within the single market if the UK leaves it.....
Well.... That won't be a problem any more.
Hamish, I'm interested to know your opinion on the announced intention to change corporation tax to 15% from 20%. Do you think this will help at all? It seems that Osborne is trying to pre-empt something or other.Union, not Disunion

See I saw it a different way ... I saw Sturgeon watching what has been happening to people who have made Scotland their home that may live in the EU and the worry they are going through and saw the potential of them being used as pawns and decided to let them know they are wanted in Scotland ... she has expressed this a few times now ... I don't really see anything bad in that
But then I have no problem with immigration so ....0 -

Certainly there's 20,000+ who don't who have signed a petition to "#purgethesturge".
Also the voting statistics appear to indicate that there's between 1,000,000 and 1,600,000 Scots who identify with the SNP and their agenda. The rest, some 2,400,000 Scots eligible to vote don't appear to want to vote or agree with those views, or both!
how is your question related to
the class of
?'all scots that wish independence but want to join the EU'.
