Many of the Scottish electorate voted for an SNP administration following the "once in a generation" Independence Referendum simply because they felt it was "safe" to do so!

The same people who had previously voted SNP, not because they had any interest in Independence at all, but because the were either disenchanted with the 2 main parties, or they were believed the SNP ran a fairly competent administation, (hindsight unfortunately has proved otherwise).

Not for one minute, given that the Independence question had been settled once and for all, did this section of the electorate expect their vote to be used as a mandate or justification to manipulate the UK government in applying pressure for a re-run.

To suggest the "will of the Scottish people" is somehow being denied by respecting the result of the referendum is either illogical, dishonest or fairly transparent propaganda.

These must have been the people who did not read, know about or understand the SNP manifesto-
People who vote SNP should know the SNP live, breathe and eat indy

Add to that the SNP put a paragraph about material change and Scotland being dragged out of the EU against its will

As far as the will of the people- we won't know until we have a referendum

We do, however know the will of the Scottish Parliament (as elected by the Scots who bothered to vote under a system designed to prevent any one party getting a majority) is to have another independence referendum

So, you may or may not be correct about the will of the people but you are wrong about the will of the duly elected Scottish Parliament who have expressed a will to have another independence referendum

Whether you like it or not- there is a majority in the Scottish Parliament (if I can count correctly the Greens and the SNP have over 50% of the MSP's) so it is Westminster who will be anti-democratic if they were to refuse a mandate for a referendum
    baldly going on...

The problem is in Scotland only 55% of the electorate bother to vote.

That means that the people who live and eat Indy, vote vote SNP The rest vote Labour or Tory.

On the other hand in the Independence referendum was 84.6% - so really there are voters that do not want independence who are just not voting in Scottish Parliamentary elections - Until Unionist parties can engage with people we will always have the SNP in power.

By the way, the turnout for the EU referendum was 67.2% and of that 62% voted remain, it is the majority, but only 62% of the 67.2% who voted - So the Will of the Scottish people isn't that many people really!
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

Only problem with that is they only have 37.1% of the population going by the last election. ;)

Truly, Scottish Nationalists are the Miss Havershams of the independence movement. Waiting for the wedding that never was, while their cakes go mouldy and their clothes fall apart.

Highly commendable. Trouble is there's more to daily life than Indy for the majority.

Ian Blackford: Scotland will seek power for second referendum if Brexit goes ahead

THE SNP will put forward an amendment asking for the power to hold an independence referendum if the UK leaves the EU, the party's Westminster spokesman has said.
Ian Blackford MP said that the people of Scotland should be able to "determine their own destiny" after the country voted to remain in the EU in the 2016 referendum.

And if you can't see Teresa's and Westminster's refusal is part of the plan then more fool you I suppose. Anyway after nearly three years marking time and sitting on their hands.. that's the SNP making their moves now. Enjoy !
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
  • As for David Davis this morning, what a grade A plonker. If you think Alex Salmond's 'once in a generation' soundbite has been repeated to death.. this one's going to be on loop 24/7 on every indy supporting network and channel there is.

MARR: “What would [Theresa May] need to bring back [from Brexit negotiations] to win you over?”

DAVIS: “She needs to bring back a clear ability on the part of the United Kingdom to be able to leave this treaty when it chooses to. There is no other treaty in the world I’m aware of where a sovereign nation undertakes to join up and can only leave when the other side says so.
    Yes well. :rotfl:

And with all things the Nats touch will go off half c0ck and result in humiliation.

Out of interest did Ian Blackford run it past the boss or has he gone rogue?

Is plastered all over the front page of The National. So I'd say Nicola definitely knows. And the timing planned for a while now.
