    Because London is in England.

London produces a whacking big surplus.

Shakes head. Not even a smidgin of common sense.:)
So it's Scotland and the rUK against London then.. rather than Scotland compared to the UK ( where Scotland is counted twice anyway ). That alone makes GERS figures and comparisons to the UK redundant.
Scotland counted as a region of the UK stacks up quite well. Its when you try to apply mere regional estimates and figures to an independent country, all the problems with the accounting methods used start.

Meanwhile Mike's on his way to France...
Scotland to strengthen ties with EU despite Brexit, says Mike Russell

He will emphasise the Scottish Government’s opposition to a “deeply damaging” Brexit and its support for remaining in the EU single market and customs union.

    And
Brexit: No-deal 'risks break-up of UK' - Herman Van Rompuy

A no-deal Brexit could lead to the break-up of the UK, the ex-president of the European Council has warned.
Herman Van Rompuy told the Observer leaving the EU without a deal posed an "existential threat" to the UK.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Nope. The remainder of the UK seems disinclined to separate from London and the SE. Well, that's what I think anyway. The SNP could prove me wrong by putting up candidates in every constituency north of Watford and west of Reading at the next GE and sweep to power.

Everywhere is both a region and part of the UK. Everywhere is counted twice, It is your logic that is redundant.

I realise that you find it difficult to deal with GERS and that fiscal deficit. Independence is a tough sell when it has an £8.5 billion price tag.

But I do hope you realise that all your alleged ' problems with the accounting methods used' could equally mean that the true fiscal position will be even worse.

Please get a move on with this second referendum. We want to start spending that £8.5 billion on something else asap.

Ah, the gift that keeps on giving. If you're a unionist that is.:)

Me, I'm in the indy camp. Not that I've got a say in the matter.

Sturgeon, give me back my billions!

It’s a tragedy that proud Scots must see their noble quest for independence end like this, at the sticky hands of a serial fiddler.

Hasn’t that eejit in Bath got form for this too?

They are probably all at it.

Time to start voting Labour again.

There aren't any figures for England strangely enough. Just Wales, Scotland and NI.

It's not my logic but I can't be bothered finding the link.

My problem is Brexit. GERS figures v's Brexit figures come 2020/21/22.... Which are going to be the worse for Scotland ? Brexit seems to be tough sell to half the UK in terms of economic and trade figures. On top of that, I certainly don't want stuck with another Tory govt like this one until 2025 or beyond.

As stated before Teresa won't grant a second Scottish referendum. While folks like you might be all for it, she and her Govt are too s**t scared of the possible result. They think they need Scotland holding their hands to get through leaving the EU. They're far, far too frightened of England and Wales going it alone poor dears. You'll be needing that 8.5 billion to quell riots and establish martial law once Asda runs out of bread and milk for a few weeks.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Salmond is the former SNP leader and an alleged fiddler, serial or otherwise.

Corbyn is the current Labour leader and a proven anti-semite. Leastways, that's what I think, and so does Frank Field.

I would hope that proud Scots would vote for anyone, even the Green Party, or Renfrewshire Communist Action rather than the pile of racist garbage Labour has become.
