Well we had a vote on that question and the country voted to leave, so totally irrelevant.0 -
The polls said Remain would win in Indy Ref, so it proved. There is a consistent trend of Remain being ahead and leave are not closing the gap. SNP will not dare actually have a vote they will lose as they'll never get a chance again
A poll last week from the Independent newspaper showed support for leave is still 34% in Scotland, 4% down is not really a massive change!
The SNP tried every trick in the book to try and win the vote including bending every rule they could:
1) A biased question towards leave that they were forced to change
2) Allowing 16/17 year old voters as they thought they would vote leave
3) Holding it in the year of the 400th anniversary of Bannockburn just after the Commonwealth games (where Scotland compete as independents)
4) Lying constantly about staying in the EU, keeping the pound, oil revenues, NATO etc
This shouldn't be hard to understand, and it's been this way since the morning after the Brexit vote. No matter what happens, or what GERS figures say or how many times the same old lines ( see your post ) are trotted out. The Scottish Govt will take Scotland to the polls once again as soon as Theresa gets round to 100% confirming Scotland is out of the Single Market along the with the rest of the UK.
Once there is 100% confirmation of Scotland being out of the Single Market. Sturgeon will call it as she has nothing to lose. If she doesn't, the SNP as a political party will not survive because it's core voters will desert in droves. If Sturgeon sits back and does nothing while Scotland is taken out of the Single market, then she ends the SNP as a political force in Scotland for decades. She has no choice but to call a vote. Comprende ? So a vote there will be.
We're all just waiting on Big T's confirmation that the UK is out rather than a 'Brexit in name only'. One of those ( BINO ) delays things re Scotland a bit.

I’m pleased to see that BBC UK have apologised on air for their inaccurate reporting of #GERS yesterday (when challenged by us) It was important to pursue their erroneous statement. @Scotgov have delivered balanced budgets. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

The time for complaining that you didn't want to be part of it was before then.
18th September 2014.
As a nation you voted to stay.
There were no caveats to the question in that vote either.“Or if there is a significant and material change in the circumstances that prevailed in 2014, such as Scotland being taken out of the EU against our will,”It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

They are managing that quite well themselves :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

What about the large % that didn't vote. Or don't they count either.0 -
Shakethedisease wrote: »The caveat was in the SNP's manifesto before the Brexit vote even took place. That's what the SNP were voted into Holyrood with. They have to abide by it or risk losing the people and votes which put them there. And that would never do.
...then why on God's earth have they not got on and organised a second vote by now! If they believe they have a mandate because it was in their manifesto they are not delivering what they promised surely?
We both know the reason....they'll lose once again.0 -
Alex Salmond is having a bad time of it now too - Suing the Scottish Government - so who will be footing the bill then?

I came on to post this the other way round. It looks as if the Scottish Government is having a hard time or if it isn't then it should be.
How can anyone have charges levelled against them yet not be allowed to know what the basis of those charges are?
Poor lazy legislation one again from an SNP government?0 -

It's got nothing to do with legislation. Currently it's an internal investigation by his employer, not a criminal case. Unless the Judicial Review says otherwise, the employer can investigate as it sees fit. If they don't want to tell him whom he's allegedly harrassed so he can allegedly harrass them some more, that's their choice.
Salmond hasn't been charged with anything as yet. If the police do decide to charge him on the allegations handed to them by the Scottish Government, he'll be made fully aware of what the charges are at that time.0 -

Should it become clear that Scotland is really and truly leaving the Single Market, there is no way Nicola Sturgeon can sit back and do nothing. Not now. Her mandate runs till 2021 so she does still have the luxury of a bit of time ( for more big mess ups by the Tories ) before acting. But there really is no way she cannot act after everything that's been said over the last two years.
But truly, did you really think all those Yes voters, a significant chunk of Remain voters, businesses and other entities affected by Brexit were really just going to wave Brexit through no probs ? The Scottish Govt will have to use their mandate one way or another. Teresa will refuse another ref, that's for sure. Absolutely no danger that she'll issue a section 30 on request. But should Scottish public opinion swing even further against Brexit then Sturgeon can safely disregard whatever May says.
Salmond.. hmmm.. all I have to say is that I hope both he and the persons who have made complaints all get a fair hearing. Will be a complete media s**t show for Salmond now however it turns out.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0
