But the truth is that holding a second referendum at the end of Brexit talks has already been voted through by the Scottish Parliament. This GE is only going to endorse the Scottish Parliament's wishes further.
Read the manifesto.
A majority of seats would put a 'triple lock' on the requirement for another referendum. If the SNP wins a majority of Scottish seats in this election, that would complete a triple lock, further reinforcing the democratic mandate which already exists.
and explicit within the manifesto is that the SNP will see a majority of seats as an endorsement of a referendum whether or not they like the terms of Brexit (like they would)At the end of the Brexit process, when the final terms of the deal are known, it is right that Scotland should have a real choice about our future.
This is a proxy referendum to seek endorsement for another referendum.
Everything else is padding.
It would be more surprising if the SNP didn't try use the GE to push the independence cause. Anyway, we know how this will go down - further declines at the polls for the SNP and the GE result will have nothing to do with independence. A great result for the SNP and twitter will be awash with posts saying 'it's on!'.0 -

I'm sorry, but everything in this manifesto regarding a second ref has been known for months. The end of the Brexit negotiations Sept 18 - Mar 19 we've been debating already for ages here. The majority of seats is a new thing, but is only there since the Tories have been bumping their gums about mythical vote shares ( again as some have been doing here too ). That the SNP will win a majority of seats is pretty much nailed on.
They don't really need this GE to push for another referendum. Instead, they're making absolutely sure that the other parties can't use this GE against one. Making sure that the Tories 'public consent' spiel can be used the other way round if the next PM tries to delay or block it.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
"SNP calls for UK tax rise to help Scottish economy
The World at One
BBC Radio 4

The Scottish National Party has launched its manifesto, with a call for another referendum in Scotland, once the Brexit negotiations have finished, and for an increase in UK taxes to promote growth in Scotland.
Tommy Sheppard was an SNP MP for Edinburgh East in the last parliament. He told The World at One another vote would be needed when the terms of Brexit are known - not out of disrespect to the first result but because "the terms have completely changed to compromise the options that were then available".
He was challenged as to why they had not raised taxes in Scotland under existing powers, in order to promote growth in the Scottish economy - he said those powers were in the "margins" and "unless they had power over the whole economy, it doesn't make sense to use those powers in isolation"."
Got the above from the BBC website, election latest. Can't believe the SNP want to raise the upper rate of tax to 50p, across the UK, to help the Scottish economy. Is that because they want more money from Westminster because a 50p rate tax will not help the Scottish economy.
Tommy Sheppard also stated that Scotland was a "margin" and raising the rate to 50p in Scotland, which they have the power to do anytime, would not help. Too right it wouldn't.0 -
Let her dream on she can have her referendum but the Scottish people are far wiser than she gives us credit for, so it will still be a NO vote.0

Yes, it's odd isn't it that they still want money from the rest of the UK when according to the likes of shakey they can stand on their own feet as an independent country. £118bn? Chicken feed.0 -

Money from the rest of the UK ? Scotland is currently part of the UK. You and other's here cannot make your minds up which it's to be.
Eu referendum - Scotland is part of the UK and that's that.
SNP manifesto - How dare the SNP put out a manifesto which is UK based.
Scotland's economy - Oh woe is me Scotland is doing so badly with the economy run from Westminster, but lets blame the Scottish Govt for that.
And anyway :-SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said she was keeping "under review" the possibility of a 50p top rate of income tax. Her party supported the move at the UK general election in 2015 but took advice that warned against introducing the 50p rate just for Scotland.Ms Sturgeon said details of whether the SNP would again support a UK-wide 50p top rate would be in the SNP manifesto.
...The parties clashed the day after Finance Secretary Derek Mackay told MSPs that the Scottish government was still considering whether to put up tax for higher earners in Scotland from next year. He said the government's council of economic advisers was looking at whether a 50p rate could be introduced from 2018-19.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

How can a separatist party be trusted when advocating union wide taxation policy?
It doesn't make sense.
Also, why did they argue hard for local taxation control, when they don't believe they can make it work to their advantage?0 -

Revamce to the thread ... tory cuts are hurting people ... Scotland can't continue to mitigate them ... free prescriptions in this instance would help that person ....
It's called joining the dots ...0
