Wow, May took a beating tonight. Corbyn did better than I thought was possible but May was a disaster and her failings were exposed. Paxman could have twisted the knife on a couple of occasions but he changed the subject and let her off.
I think this election is going to be better for Labour than expected.

So what you're saying is that you're in the customs union which the single market is, that there will be no hard border so that fully loaded lorries can just wander in and out unchecked? How does that work?
Blimey. Did you really vote in an EU referendum not knowing stuff like this ? The Single Market and the customs union are two different things.

    Sturgeon :-
What we propose would not see Scotland have a different relationship with the EU customs union to the rest of the UK. The Scotland-England border would not be an external EU customs border, she added. “What is in effect now a customs union between Scotland and the rest of the UK would continue.”

The EFTA States - including the EFTA State parties to the EEA Agreement (Norway Iceland and Liechtenstein) - are not members of the EU Customs Union. They do not participate in the EU's free trade agreements with other markets in the world and trade in goods between the EFTA State parties to the EEA Agreement and the EU member States are subject to customs procedures, including "rules of origin" checks on the source of components to ascertain whether tariffs require to be paid as products cross the border.

Scotland could stay in the Single Market, and still have no trade customs border with rUK. Making Tricky's repeated arguments about jobs and trade redundant. You can say what you like about pro-indy folks, but we do like to be fully informed about what we're talking about. Scotland can have BOTH unhindered trade with rUK and the EU via the Single Market. Leaving the Customs union and all it entails along with the UK would sadly be the price though. Sturgeon already made this absolutely clear some months ago. You must've missed it ?
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Not really going as planned for May is it.
    Westminster voting intention:
    CON: 43% (-)
    LAB: 37% (+3)
    LDEM: 8% (-)
    UKIP: 4% (-)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

As usual, half the story. The half which makes what you propose viable. I suggest you look at how the EEA operates.

Michael Barnier puts it better than I did:

Customs controls are part of border management. They protect the single market.

No doubt he's wrong and Nicola is right as always.

Did you quote the wrong article?
No return to hard border in Ireland after Brexit, EU chief negotiator says
The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator reassured Ireland on Thursday that the bloc will fight to ensure there is no return to a hard border with Northern Ireland after the U.K. leaves the EU.

Mornings aren't your best part of the day cog ;)

This is a massive win win for Scotland. Anyone who refutes this isn't thinking of the best way forward for Scotland.

Not at all. It underlines the fundamental problem.

Just let me know when the Irish border question is settled. It probably can't be done without Irish reunification which is the exact opposite of what The SNP wants for Scotland.
