That sounds perfect ono. That would be my plan if I didn't have to go out tonight.

Have just washed the car which has cheered me up :)

I have stripped the bed, opened the bedroom windows, put the washing in and stuck the duvets and pillows outside to air.

Now I am having a huge glass of water with a 1000mg vitamin C tablet.

Have entered quite a few of the advent comps. Have noticed little worrying thoughts creeping in where I am measuring my entire selfworth/'goodness' based on whether I win something. This is not a good sign as it is so statistically unlikely.

  • I am glad you feel a bit better Sue, well done you for talking about it! You are always welcome here.

I avoid competitions too, Whitewing but for a different reason. I cannot bear to win because I have huge guilt for those who don't. I cannot even play a card game for the same reason, if I win something I feel as if I have made others unhappy and hate myself. I am a strange one, :rotfl:

I got a text message today telling me which hospital my donated blood has been passed to. It surprised me (in a good way) as this was the first time I have donated since they implemented this messaging. Hope whoever needed it gets well soon.

My first thought was what a nice idea.

    My second thought was ....why?......
If you're donating blood, you know it'll get used. It's not as if they're telling you the exact circumstances of its use ie. "for someone who's been involved in a car accident".

My third thought was to ask what the cost of such a messaging service was, and that maybe that cost should be saved? Given how the NHS is so cash-strapped?

I'm not throwing cold water over the idea that people should be thanked, but I'm sure blood donors are already thanked a lot.

(By the way, I've offered my blood twice in the past, but because of my asthma and medication, they won't have it!)

    What do others think?

(I've developed a raging sore throat since yesterday evening, so am going to stay in bed today, as I don't feel well. Be good, you lot!)

Like parts of the NHS, the NBS have an automated messaging system.

A computer sent the text - it's just created by a little tick box on the electronic form filled in when you volunteer as a donor.

    Positive reinforcement.

Regular donors are so few and far between that new techniques are being used to reinforce the 'glow' created by doing good. Unexpected thanks is a particularly useful tool.

Yep GN, I agree. I also like the posts on facebook from people who have given and received blood (different people, obviously!) There's no new info in there, but seeing an individual's story and photos can be a big boost in reminding people to make an appointment etc.

DH is putting the xmas tree up today! Somehow I don't think it will be the
    Disneyesque experience from the films.

pyxis, can you find a black and white striped sheep cartoon picture for our Baaa Humbug posts, please!
