  • Ben just shouted "Hold onto your sofa and put your umbrella up! A flood could be coming!" I now like Ben. :rotfl:

Lambyr, thank goodness your mum agrees with you. Even if she changes her mind, don't you dare give in! That's disgraceful of the relatives!

Quite apart from the fact that they must know you're on a low income, so it's dreadful that they expect you to feed them for a whole weekend!

When I was on benefits, on the rare occasion that I had visitors to stay, they did at least bring food and drink, or give me money for food, which I had to accept as I couldn't have fed them otherwise!

So, stick to your guns, girl!

Quick update, Ben is here. He is young, and bouncy and friendly. (I have made him sound like a puppy, sorry Ben :rotfl:). I feel a little better. Ben and the letting agent are currently removing the side of the bath. I may make pointless updates because it helps me to you all what's happening.

    A puppy plumber!

There's a cartoon story in that! Ben, the puppy plumber!

(Poor Ben, if only he knew that bonkers people all over the country were discussing him! :rotfl:)

Here's a puppy plumber, except he's called Joe! (And he's a bit old for a puppy!)

  • Awww, adorable little plumber!

I am saved! They can't find the leak from up here so they are going to go through the bedroom ceiling of the flat downstairs. Our flooring doesn't need to come up! So relieved. Now I just hope my bed doesn't suddenly drop through the floor. :rotfl:

  • Well done for saying no Lambyr. The notice they gave was absurd and simply announcing they were coming was rude. Not to mention that out of "weekend with girlfriend" or "weekend waiting on intolerant relatives" is an easy choice ;)

What an exciting life you lead, WaS!

First it's lovely policemen, then it's alien mushrooms on the ceiling, then it's your own personal waterfall/waterbed, and now puppy plumbers!

    Whatever next!

(Watch out for strange conflagrations necessitating the appearance of hunky firemen!)

WaS - I'm glad they're not going to have to pull your flooring up and I'm sure your bed'll be fine.

Ono - well done on buying the piano. Is it worth looking at online tutorials until you find a teacher or is that likely to teach you bad habits that are going to be difficult to undo?

There's nothing more empowering (regarding practising) as :

    1) Having paid in advance for a term's tuition and

    2) The thought of a disapproving piano teacher looking down her pince-nez at you for not having done any practice.
(Ok , that was in the 60s and I was a child!)

But seriously, I've never found that home tutorials worked, once the novelty wore off, whereas real live lessons did!
They can be useful as an additional aid, though.

This also applies to learning a language. The prospect of the next lesson encourages completion of the homework and practice of what was learned at the previous one! Also, a teacher will correct mistakes one may not be aware of . Lots of experience of this, I made plenty of mistakes last night; it was my first Italian lesson for months and it showed :rotfl: .

On my own I'm probably going to go as far as learning where middle C is on the keyboard and re-learning how to read music, at least the basics of it. I am concerned about making sure I don't go to lessons without any preconceived ideas about what I should be doing with my fingers, then find I need to unlearn things.
