I do the same as you with mugs and glasses, Calley!
Glad its not just me :rotfl: I always turn the glasses upside down on the draining board to dry. But I have read that is not the correct they should the right way up. Oh well never mind.

WaS I think you are amazing how you have coped and managed over the years.

I get that you are basically locked up in your flat. But as you say its weighing up what is more important. And to be steady and as stable as you can be is worth more than going out side. Shame that you don't have a garden flat as at least you could get out and get some fresh air.

That is very true, Calley and as much as I could do more back then the reason I could was because I was either drunk most of the time or taking illegal drugs. I was constantly self-medicating to try to do what others could while sober and it was very dangerous. I stopped when I became very ill with Double Pneumonia and Pleurisy and I accepted that it really wasn't a good coping mechanism and the doctors weren't happy with me when I confessed what I'd been doing. Plus it still didn't stop me frequently being admitted to hospital and everything becoming totally out of control. I cannot return to that so this has to be the correct thing to do. For the most part I am content though, I only have to remember how bad things once were to realise this is far better option for me. Still, sometimes I wish I could do things that others don't think twice about.

You aren't supposed to turn glasses upside down to dry? Oops...

WaS, just because you've decided it's best to shrink your world for now to keep stable doesn't mean that can't change a little in the future. You've already made some trips out which a couple of years ago would have been unthinkable. There's always going to be the balance between that and whatever else is going on in your life (the dreaded ESA comes to mind), but never say never - whatever works for you.

    WaS,

You know what works best for yourself. So you are a long way a head of a lot of people. Who wont even admit they have an issue.

At the moment its what is keeping you steady.

Yes I did read somewhere that you turn them right way up. I know only 44 and been doing it upside down for how ever long I have been doing washing up :rotfl:

  • Thank you elsien and Calley, you are both right. I am lucky in that I realise my limitations and I was able to make decisions to shrink my world to gain stability, a lot of people sadly don't recognise how unwell they are to be able to do that. Like I said, I am mostly content, how ill I once was for 15 years is burnt into my mind forever and I will do everything I can never to go back to that.

It's the little things, like being able to pop out for a pint of milk or feeling bored so watching tv or putting some music on that I miss. The silly little things no one would think twice about. I do have a trip out planned, in October I am going to stay with my teacher friend for a night, we try to meet up once a year. So that is something to look forward to and he has a lovely garden with a 6ft high fence no one can see over. I tend to spend a lot of time sitting out there enjoying the fresh air and it will be lovely to see him.

Yes I think I would feel like that as well. I moan about having to go out to do chores but the minute I can't for any reason I'm climbing the walls even if I didn't really want to go out in the first place.
Glad you're able to meet up with your friend though. No other midnight jaunts on the cards at the moment? I guess it's harder in the summer because it's lighter later.

  • Hmm, there are lots of possible reasons Lambyr. You aren't horrible by feeling reluctant at all, even when I could socialise things like that would make me cringe.

Perhaps she is feeling lonely? Maybe she feels she has a duty to stay in touch? Perhaps she is feeling nostalgic? There are lots of possibilities and its difficult to guess really. It is one of those paint on a smile and be polite situations really, I find it useful to have a little list in my head of possible conversation topics in situations like that to prevent long and painful silences.
