ER was asleep when I went to visit this morning and I thought she looked quite peaceful. From what I understand, there is more chance of her not having another one than of it happening again. It is still too early to tell what the effect of the first one is. She is eating and smiling occasionally and to me those are very good signs.

MIL is poorly and has lost a lot of weight but seems better now.

Littlewing is overtired, grumpy and quick to flare up.

I couldn't sleep last night so dragged my duvet to the sofa and that worked.

Just want to get through today and then I have 2 orders to unpack at home which will be exciting at least! (If DH hasn't unpacked them by the time I get back - he doesn't know about one of them).

Am at work but haven't actually done anything yet - good job I am the boss. Should be a calm, productive afternoon, hopefully.

Probably Iz, plus it was so out of context. To be fair to my boss (who drives me mad but is a generally nice person lol), he's not a small talk sort of person, his focus is always very much just on the work. We work at opposite ends of the country so don't see each other in person that often, and when we do there's not really any non-work conversation beyond basic pleasantries. I was absolutely no expecting him to tell me something like that, especially as he then said that he hasn't mentioned it to anyone else at work.

I am genuinely pleased for him, especially as I think it will do him the world of good to have something other than work in his life! Just could have done without feeling like I'd been winded in an appraisal.

Oh well.... sure it's nothing dairy milk can't fix.

Oh tea, sorry I cross posted. It was the unexpectedness of the conversation that feels like a sucker punch, I expect. I know there is nothing I can say to make you feel better. I wish there was something appropriate.

    Hello!

Thanks MU. I don't have the ingredients to bake a cake for her and I've got to be very stingy about how much I spend this week so probably wouldn't be able to get them in either. Whatever I do can't really cost more than a couple of quid.

She likes a lot of the same things I like - sci-fi, fantasy, horror movies. I can let her take her pick on Netflix and Amazon! I've got a £1 credit on Amazon for a film rental. She likes video games too, and we play on the Xbox a bit. I suppose I could let her win for once. :rotfl:

She was over last night to watch the season finale of Game of Thrones. Mum and I split the cost of a heavily discounted Sky package which I know sounds pretty bad when I've made such a mess of my finances but that was a one off caused by my own forgetfulness. And since mum's pretty much housebound it's nice for her to have some entertainment, and it really is heavily discounted. Never paying full price for that!

Anyhoo, while she was here she made a suggestion for a "career" move and I looked into it today and while it wouldn't really be my thing, I kinda see her thinking. I'd have to think about it myself but I dunno, she might be on to something. She's a clever one at times.

Anyway went off on a bit of a tangent there. I thought maybe I could write her a poem? Or is that like the tackiest thing ever? I dunno, I'd probably feel a bit weird myself if someone started reciting poetry to me so maybe it wouldn't be a great idea, unless we've got some wine in the cupboard. Should check that.

I think we've got some pasta and I'll be buying cheese anyway cos we need cheese, and there's definitely some tinned tomatoes in the cupboard so I can do a pasta dish for dinner on Saturday. I do have candles... I have a bunch of scented ones I light when I'm in the bath.

I kinda wish I was a bit more arts and crafty... like if I could paint her something, or draw her something or just make something. Unfortunately, I was born with the artistic skill of a rabid penguin.

Or maybe I should just do my best to make her feel special this weekend and then try and surprise her next weekend when I have more money?

    Will continue to think!

Whitewing - it's good to hear your ER is eating and smiling. They do seem like good signs. :)

Tea - sorry to hear that your boss's comment had a negative effect. :( Hope you're feeling less winded now.

    Lambyr, a poem is a no-brainer!

That's your creative thing, so do it!

Then you could hand write it onto a nice piece of paper, and roll it up and tie it with ribbon. That way it'd be a proper present!

My mum and dad bought me a calligraphy set when I was young.

Wish I still had that now. :rotfl:

I did calligraphy classes a few years back. I can recommend it - for me it was a real way of switching off. Is it flow they call it when you lose yourself in the activity? Although with my perfectionist streak I was never that happy with anything I produced.
If I had more time I'd give it another go.

I do wish I still had that calligraphy set, and had practiced a bit more with it.

My handwriting used to be so neat and tidy, but since leaving school and almost exclusively writing using a computer my wrist cramps up after ten or fifteen minutes of writing. My handwriting is also terrible these days too.
