I'm a computer programmer and you guys just outgeeked me. Unbelievable! :rotfl:

    Sorry about the job hbs.

Afm - today has been an ok day work- wise. I'm trying to look at the extra work as practice and experience for the interview assuming I'm able to apply and using it as an audition so the guy interviewing can see how awesome I am at the job - maybe I can even overtake the golden boy if I do it right. And so far it's not so bad - I've managed to clean up a whole load of stuff. I am going to try to be as visible as possible doing the job without shouting 'Coo-ee. Look at me doing the job. Am I not the most awesome thing ever?! ' The only trouble with this approach is that if I don't get the job, I'm going to have to leave as clearly they don't think I'm good enough.

I didn't start WoW when it came out, at the time I was in a bleeding edge raid guild in Everquest, and when I finally stopped playing I resolved I was never getting involved in another MMORPG again. It's too much like having a second full time job that you start when you get home from the first one!

I started playing Everquest for something to do in the evenings after a relationship fizzled to a stop, but had always liked that sort of gaming, played Baldur's gate when it came out and a secondary school Dungeons and dragons, pen and paper with lots of dice :D (still have all my various dice).

Haha! Yes I totally get the second job thing. I've rarely been in a higher end raiding guild in WoW cos firstly I play mostly for the social side of things and in my limited experience, the people pushing for realm firsts and all that aren't really interested in socialising. Also being a carer, I sometimes have to go afk part way through a raid and that type of thing isn't tolerated in higher end guilds but is alright at the casual end. I did try a high end guild for a bit but ducked out cos it wasn't for me.

Even on the casual side though it can be a lot of effort. They've really dumbed WoW down now so most of these things are no longer necessary but time was you had to get your flasks, potions, and make sure your gear was enchanted, gemmed and reforged. Then you have a three hour raid with a fifteen minute break half way through. And being on the casual end you kinda have to expect to wipe, a lot, so you gotta go farm gold for repairs too! All these tactics to learn and everything. I only ever raided 2/3 times per week but it was still a lot of effort.

Haven't done much raiding though for a while. I think cos the newest expansion dumbed everything down so much I actually kinda lost that investment in doing all the things to make my character great so I've not bothered much. It's like those things that seemed a bit like a chore actually made everything more meaningful. Used to irk me that I had to do a bunch of daily quest zones just to get a shoulder enchant but now I actually kinda miss it.

In the previous three expansions, I cleared everything on at least normal/10-player difficulty and in the one before that which was when I started raiding I cleared the first couple of raids. This time around I've downed some world bosses, did a 10th Anniversary raid for a special mount and managed to get a group to down the final boss of the expansion on heroic just so I could get a moose mount!

    I like mounts... :)

HBS - LARP looks like fun. Kinda like cosplay with extra purpose. Don't think I'd ever get the chance to do it myself but I'd probably give it a go if the opportunity presented itself. For now, will have to stick to virtual worlds for RPing.

The high end guilds weren't as social for sure, but the first guild I joined when I started was and we used to have guild meetings once a year in different cities around Europe. We typically got six to a dozen people turn up, and people kept coming to them even long after they stopped playing - the last one was about four years ago, and it turned out only one person still had an active account in the game :rotfl: .

Thanks guys, that's what I love about this thread, great advice and understanding. :grouphug:

I've emailed him to say I'm not going tonight, not because I've chickened out (well maybe a little bit :p ) but because I'm really not in the mood. I'm grumpy and hormonal and think I might just have worn my car horn out at the amount of IDIOTIC DRIVERS (that felt good lol!) about! So yeah, I'm really not feeling over social able tonight. Then I start thinking 'make the effort you lazy person', you'd enjoy it', and I know this to be true, but I think deep down today, I just cba.

There is one in a few weeks time that I'd like to go to. It's an old school (1583) which has just closed down last year, and it's a crying shame. Mr Bean even went there lol! Am I out geeking you all yet? :p (no, I think that would take quite a lot going by the talk up there....*runs and hides*

You're right ono, it's great when you're walking round with your camera, as you can just wander off on your own and do your own thing. It's the pub afterwards when you've got to make small talk and get to know new people!

Anyhow, total change of subject, it just popped into my mind that Birdie doesn't seem to have been on much lately?

Good approach code, I think it'll stand you in good stead if you are allowed to interview for that job. :)

And yes, tea stop talking about crisps!! :p
