First of all, stairs Faerie. I cannot do stairs either, I shuffle up and down on my bottom! It isn't pretty but it does work! I am so glad that you have your assessment date!

You have been through so much, talking to your friend must have bought so much back for you. Have a huge, squishy hug.

As far as furniture goes check out charities in your area. I furnished my entire flat here through a charity. The offered me things like a secondhand but lovely sofa for £10, a bed for £15, a set of side tables and a chest of drawers for £5. They even threw in a free pretty rug! A lot of areas have charities like this, I really hope that your area does. Ask your social worker because I needed a referral for mine but it is so worth it, these people are incredible.

Elsien, there is a huge gap in services. I experienced prison rehabilitation through work years ago and it was awful then, it seems to be just as bad now. The people with supportive families seem to stand a chance, those with no family, friends, or only friends involved in crime, and/or those who have come from care as children are just hitting a brick wall. It really breaks my heart.

There is a very personal reason why the prison rehabilitation situation upsets me so much too. A lot of these people with psychiatric disorders cannot cope with the outside world like I can't, a lot came from care as children like I did in my later teenage years, they are estranged from their families just like me. When they say they want to be a small space and never go outside because it is too loud and big is exactly how I feel. They are scared of people seeing them just as I am. My flat is tiny and I couldn't handle a larger one, I like to be in small spaces to feel safe. I have walked into police stations and begged to be put into cells because I need to feel locked away and safe. I have certainly considered smashing shop windows at those times and destroying property. Anything (other than hurting someone) so I could be put in a cell and feel safe.

Take the crime away and these people are feeling just as I do about the world. The only difference is in my case it is understood and I am supported, in their case they have nothing. For me when I wanted to be in a cell the police were sensible enough to take me to hospital and the hospital were sensible enough to put me in a side room so that I could feel enclosed. (Random fact - I love police cars when I am ill in that way, there is a wonderful feeling of not being able to get out and no one being able to get in. The journey alone comforted me, it felt so safe). I was lucky and people understood what I needed, so many people don't have that. It is very close to home and I can imagine just how they feel. I would be as terrified as they are thrown out into the world.

Yes, SingleSue, your last paragraph says it all, really.

Of course, that's why I said "the vast majority". I appreciated that some children, for whatever reason, might live further away from their school than the norm, and understandably, it might also be difficult for children with disabilities.

It must have been a very tiring time for you. :A

Stressful, tiring, blooming annoying and expensive in fuel.

My car decided to go bang at one point during that year and what a nightmare it was. I tried the bus, we arrived at the first school late as they were running late that day and we were waiting around for the next bus to go to the second school when luckily we heard that the school was being evacuated. It actually worked out cheaper and quicker to get a taxi, so I did that for the pick up. Then I borrowed the parent's car for a few days (dad was in Papworth hospital at the time) until they made the decision to buy me another one and me pay them back bit by bit.

That replacement car cost £461 from Ebay and did me for the next 6 years.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Pyxis, that's an xkcd : https://xkcd.com/303/ His comics are one of my absolute favourite things on the Internet.

For many programming languages, while they are written in human readable form, they need to be "compiled" into a machine usable form before they can be run. A program, called a compiler, reads in the program code in text form and writes it out in a different form ("machine code") which the operating system understands directly. On a big project running this compilation step can take some time and you can't do much while waiting for it.

When I used to have 10 minutes builds I would use the excuse to make a cup of tea for the office.

We discovered last night that my BFFs brother hung himself - although police said they dont think he meant to ?! I'm waiting for it to hit BFF. We break for Easter on Thursday and I think once he stops keeping himself busy it will hit him. I'm just glad I'm off work to be about for him.

    End Penguin.

    Happily.....

    Penguin reply re death

There have been instances of people accidentally hanging themselves while performing sexual acts. Apparently partial asphyxiation heightens sexual sensations

    It's very sad. :(
