    Still around, still reading.......

Currently stuck inside the house, its raining outside and i want go sit on the benches outside and browse MSE/write this.

    AO

I've had a bit of a bad week, emotionally its like were are back at Day 1, when your down, you cant see the end of the down-ness until your climbing out again. Unsure what has sent me backwards, thought i was really over this as ive had a few weeks/months of uphill. Everyone takes a step backwards i tell myself, trying to keep busy and plodding on as normal. Spoke with my partner, who by now appears to be sick of my "health" a little and commented that i should go "see a doctor, for some happy pills". #cheers for that if your reading.

Ive not been sleeping well recently, my sleep pattern has shifted roughly from 12-4am, with rising for day/work around 6am. I highly suspect my mental-health is directly linked to tiredness, i called into the most unhelpful doctor reading sleep issues, and currently on zopliclone? for a few days to shift the cycle. When i am at work, the days fly-by, when i am at home, they drag..... i tend to spend most of my days now alone, and starting to ask myself is "this as good as it gets?".

No doubt next Saturday, ill be back to normal, and this will be another one of them still posts...

AO, firstly hugs. Penguin reply I always think of MH as yoyo, hang on in there and remember it does get better again.
Re. The sleeping, I find it better not to fight it. If I wake at a weird time I go and watch tv for an hour and then try to sleep again. Tossing and turning in bed if I wake in the middle of the night never seems to work. Can you try going to bed earlier? I find reading for an hour before I want to sleep helps me drop off.
Meds are something only you can decide when you want to do it. I don't know if there's any alternative that has helped in the past? Just do what you think will help.

    Agree with Dandy.

Sometimes I get up at 0230 and stay up. Another [STRIKE]day[/STRIKE] night I'll come on here for an hour then sleep again for a bit. When I worked, was often in the London office at 0645 after a 1.5 hour commute. I 'was' nuts and finally 'went' nuts. Now I 'manage' most of the time with meds, but still behave erratically (haven't driven for over a year) sometimes. Sometimes it's hilarious when I think about it, but totally embarrass my long-suffering wife at times.

  • Asked a question on another thread earlier as to why a random stranger would tell me that I 'looked stolen' (I had no idea what it meant). Pyxis kindly replied and I did find a definition online afterwards.

    https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=im%20stolen

    [Penguin Start]

They didn't look the type either to show concern for a random stranger, or to go around paying compliments although obviously I don't know. I don't even know what I was doing to deserve the comment, although I do often whistle tunes as it seems to have a calming effect - I don't often break out into song in public.

Do I 'care' about their opinion? - No.
Do I care about how I might be coming across generally? - Yes

In my life I've twice had a complete stranger, ...both yoofs, or young men, anyway, shout something at me not very complimentary.

It is very upsetting to be walking along, minding your own business, and for that to happen for no reason at all.

Once I'd got over being upset, I took the view that those yoofs were just idiots, and not worth the time of day.

Nowadays, I get lots of compliments from complete strangers about my hair, so that more than makes up for it! Mostly from women, of all ages, but occasionally from a young man too! I get far more compliments now than I ever did when I was young! :):):)

I think some young men, especially if they've had a few drinks, just blurt something stupid out......it's like a thought that gets spoken instead of just thought.
However, most of the time, they're just being a total idiot, saying something completely random to a completely random person, and getting some sort of momentary kick from it, and then forgetting all about it.

    Like I say.... a complete idiot/w****r/d******d/etc.

Hi Sleazy! Just to let you know we had to cover a lot of slang for work. The most common use of stolen as slang means good. You might also be told you look sick or ill, these also mean you look good. :rotfl:

    Hiya Pyxis!

I have a 4 hour shift later tonight. I have had a few clients now, it tends to work out as one an hour. I am getting the hang of it, talking to 'real' people is very different to the training-real people don't give you as many clues to help them! Also, clients get angry! Often they use the responder as a place to put their feelings and sometimes those feelings can be anger and frustration. I love it though, I find it drifts into my mind throughout the day and I think I am helping people, I am useful.

Here's a secret. Penguin about prescription drug addiction (it's a happy penguin!)

    Penguin-

I have mentioned on and off through the years that I developed an addiction to codeine. Well, in actual fact I was addicted to it for 6 years, taking between 17-20 a day. I had pain in my liver and sometimes I would vomit. I never saw anyone about it because I didn't want to stop, I used it for self-medicating where if I felt anxious I would take one.

In February I thought this is ridiculous, it is going to kill me and I decided to stop for good. Without telling anyone (including WaSp) I slowly reduced the amount. By the time I got down to 6 a day I no longer had a mental addiction but still couldn't stop them due to physical withdrawal which was very frustrating! A month ago I stopped taking them entirely. I had a liver test last week and my liver has healed itself, everything is fine.

It was very hard but I am a stubborn moo and when I finally set my mind to something I see it through. Codeine means nothing to me now other than as a painkiller, I don't miss it at all and in fact it makes me feel strong to think of it and say no, I am not going to take any at all. Also, my anxiety has actually dropped because a big part of it was withdrawal because I was taking so much in the first place. Was it easy? No. Am I glad I did it? Over the moon!

That's two accomplishments so far this year, I think I should go for a third.
