On the way back from the hospital this morning I called into Asda to see her .....
unfortunately she told me it was last year (Nov ?)
I suggested she write to Aldi just in case ... but I suspect she will not
The plus side is that we have a person who now is clued up (OK just a little) and will pass on her new found knowledge ....
thanks CM

Just to bump and update this thread. I was in the Asda store in Retford this morning. The car park is still full of Smart signage and ticket machines except there is a notice pasted over each machine saying "machine not in use, free parking".
Although this car park is right in the town centre and close to a couple of P&D car parks, the site was half empty. So no carmaggedon now that Smart no longer infest the place. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
The signs have all gone from the Chorley site along with the ANPR cameras. This store is in the middle of the town center so a prime candidate for people parking for free instead of the (council) pay car parks ..
BUT ...likewise, no carmageddon, no abuse of disabled spaces, no abuse of child/parent spaces, no chaos and plenty of parking places available .. and this was on a busy Saturday morning ...
Oh yes ... and lots of people shopping in the store ! Are you listening ASDA ?
So tell me again what did Smart Parking 'manage' (apart from the obvious of course ... :rotfl:)0 -
Rochdale Asda now has a ParkingEye infestation.
E-mail sent to Asda CEO (Andy Clarke - andy.clarke@asda.co.uk) with the question: "What the hell do you think you are playing at?", and also to inform him that myself, family and friends are boycotting all Asda sites until the infestation is adequately treated and the offending parasite is removed!'People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.' I love your thought pattern.
Andy Clarke however seems to be a loser when it comes to customer service and clearly does not have a single clue about the damage being done by using these parasites, with Parking Eye, his headache will just get worse.
Couple this with the new Amazon shopping deal, Clarke is going to struggle keeping customers let alone attracting new ones.
Not our problem unless you have shares in Asda:rotfl:0 -
Any letter to Asda about the possibility of engaging ParkingEye should suggest they do some research on ParkingEye -v- Somerfield, where it cost Somerfield £300,000 to get shut of them, before subsequently going bust.
To speak with their nearest rivals, currently chasing bottom place in the supermarket league with them - Morrisons - and learn of the damage being done to their reputation, customer base and bottom line. Ask too why they are cancelling every PE charge where desperate customers are contacting the CEO daily with complaints about their car park enforcer.
Look into why B&Q started to lose customers after PE went on the rampage there and why ultimately (and possibly expensively) put the needs of their customers ahead of a private contractor taking money away from them instead of them spending it in store.
Consider why any customer is likely to ever return to shop at Asda if they've just had to pay the equivalent of a shopping trolley worth of food in fines to PE for being in their car park for just a few minutes beyond their arbitrary time limit. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Andy Clarke won't give a toss to the problem. He's a dead man walking, about to get the infamous Sheperds crook and depart to pastures new.'People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.' So we inundate that replacement at the time with complaints saying why we have boycotted Asda. INUNDATE.
Jeez do they not even research these things? The Somerfield and Morrisons experiences should have told them something important.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
