Good morning all,
Yesterday after work I disappeared home, done some bits and bobs and managed to sit down for the football - which was a waste of 90 minutes. Went to bed soon after. Football training with my new team was cancelled due to a lack of numbers.
No gym this morning as I've got a game of 7-a-side tonight, unless it gets cancelled too. I think I'll make a stab at wrapping presents tonight too.
YNAB and bank all up to date and matching, which is nice, and providing there are no unexpected expenditures for the rest of the month, I'm sitting good! A nice feeling. It is early days though and I've a couple of Christmas nights out to attend so I won't get ahead of myself. just yet.
The landlord is coming out tomorrow along with the property maintenance company to view the damp and discuss next steps. Hopefully it's not too much disruption or time required.
Also realised that I was still paying contents insurance for my old property. Called to cancel and they gave me 3 options in this order;
- Change the policy to my new address, which would be an extra £10 per month
- Cancel the policy and set up a new one for the next 12 month, which would cost an extra £7 per month
- Cancel in full, and I would receive a £3 rebate.
In that order!!
Needless to say I cancelled and I'll do my comparisons over the weekend. Have to be MSE!!0 -
Morning everyone, and a happy Friday to you all,
Yesterdays football was cancelled (2 separate games in consecutive days cancelled due to a lack of numbers). So I had an evening free which meant I stayed late in work for a bit. Headed home for dinner and dithered on wither to go to a run or not and decided against it. Where has all my will power gone?!
This morning though, I went to spin class at 6.15. I feel good now but I'll no doubt be in bits over the weekend!! Tonight I've no plans but I do have a huge to do list for the weekend so I'll perhaps make a start on that. I also forgot to get chicken out the freezer for tonight too!!!
In my 3 weeks in Manchester, I've have 3 parking tickets!!! I've never had one before in my life and now to have 3 is worrying. I can't see the lines on the road because of the leaves, so I park where all the other cars are parked and where my colleagues have told me to park. So I've parked elsewhere now to try and avoid this from happening again.
Finances are all in order and not spent a penny this week!!
Tomorrow I will take the tram into Manchester for a few final Christmas bits and bobs then continue to plough through my to-do list. Sunday I have a game of football in the morning then yoga in the afternoon. Looking forward to it.0 -
Sorry to hear about the parking tickets Speky - what a shame. I wonder if it's worth appealing if the lines are not clearly visible.
Sounds as though you have a busy, but fun weekend planned. Enjoy! Not giving up

CCL - I did appeal. I appealed them all, with pictures to prove it. I've been arriving so early its dark when park in the morning and it's dark when I get my car after work. Couple that with the leaves and I've no idea! I've changed my parking place now though to be sure.
Good morning,
I'm feeling a bit guilty. I had a night out on Saturday night which lasted till the wee hours and I think I over spent. I went out for 'a few drinks' with my colleague and his friends. When it got to 11pm, there was a decision to be made; go home or head out in to Manchester. I felt I needed to go out because I've never been out in Manchester and as I'm in a new city, I need to meet new people. I know I paid some rounds of drinks with contactless, so I'm waiting on my bank catching up till I see the full damage tomorrow.
Yesterday I felt sorry for myself. Didn't wake up till 12noon, and lay on the couch all day.
No gym this morning to allow me to catch up on sleep, I may go a run tonight. Although I've a list of things to be getting on with.0 -
Was it a good night though Speky, and worth the hangover? :rotfl:Not giving up

It was a good laugh. I got to meet new people and I spent the night with my colleagues mates who I got on well with. Plus, I got a girls number, so you might want to dust the hat off for the 4th of 5th time :rotfl:
Morning everyone,
I'm feeling much more human today. My 2 day hangover has gone. I started to wilt yesterday afternoon, which I found strange as I felt absolutely fine in the morning (and no, I wasn't still drunk haha!). As such, I couldn't bring myself to make the Hungarian goulash as I had planned, and dropped by Aldi on my way home for a pizza.
So tonight I'm back on the train again. I'll go to the gym after work and then I'll attempt this recipe. I'll also give my gran a phone too.
My bank has caught up with my spends of the week and I spent £100. Of course, it's money I would love in the bank, especially at this time of year, but as I said, I truly felt like I had to.
Question;
My friend, his fiance and their 2 year old son are thinking of coming down to visit this weekend. I know what they're like, they are very caring and generous, and I've a funny feeling they will bring some sort of gift. Should I tell them not to in advance? But that's a bit...bah humbug and assumptive. Or do I buy them something I keep it should they give me something....?0 -
I suggest you buy something for the little one and maybe a bottle for the couple - fizzy is always festive and prosecco deals are everywhere. Then you're prepared.
Giving something for the little one hopefully shouldn't make them feel obligated or guilty if they don't bring something, or you could say it was your way of thanking them for making the time and effort to visit. And you could play the fizz by ear - either share it or give it to them as above.
What a lovely thing for them to do.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

Good shout Joey. I think I might just do that. I'll find out today/tomorrow if they're actually coming or not anyway.
Morning everybody,
Happy humpday.
Yesterday I left work sharpish and went to the gym which was good. It's really busy then in comparison the mornings, which I don't like, but I do enjoy not really having a time limit on when I need to be done by. Soon left and got home to attempt some Moroccan lamb dish, which actually was quite nice. I've got LO for tonight too. Phoned my mum and gran for a bit too so by the time I'd done that and eaten my dinner it was 9.
No gym this morning again. I'm just struggling to get up in the mornings since I moved down here. I think I know why though. I don't really know how to work my central heating so when I wake up, its freezing outside of the covers and I just want to curl up. Need to have a look at that tonight.
Anyway, I've brought my gym stuff with me and I might go to the gym after work again.0 -
I meant to put this on last night and then something happened and I got distracted. In light of your MSE ways, and not wanting to visit too much stuff onto the parents of a two year old, you might buy a rather nice money box and put some coins inside.
Not that you have to keep contributing, but DS1's godfather did this for him when he was born and always added to it at birthday, christmas and the odd extra occasion, as did others. Just before DS1 went to uni he opened it for the first time and banked a great deal. Over the years, I had opened it a couple of times so that I could change money when notes or coins were being phased out so I'm glad it wasn't one that couldn't be opened without spoiling but I never counted the total and it was such a great gift.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

Ahh I love that idea joey!! I really do. Very thoughtful and makes long term gifting easy. I'm stealing that idea.0
