louby - Thank you. And enjoy your trip up, it's seems a cracking city so far.
Morning everyone,
It's Friday!
Yesterday, at lunch, I went back to the hotel I was staying in to ask again about my jacket. The lovely girl behind the counter looked and said she'll ask housekeeping. Cracking lass she was. I decided that if they phoned to say they had my jacket, I might ask for her number. Anyways, I get a call a few hours later and they did have it so I agreed to go and collect it after work. When I went, she was no where to be seen. It just wasn't meant to be I suppose. Nonetheless, I'm delighted I've got my jacket back. That'll save me a few bob buying a new one.
At night I was playing football with my colleague and his mates which was good fun. It's a shame that the game runs 9-10, cause by the time I get home, showered, ready for bed etc, it's after 11.
Got up and went to the gym this morning, which free's up my night. Do we have any golf fans on here? It's "The Match" tonight between Woods and Mickleson. A golf event with no spectators and the golfers have microphones, so it'll be like nothing ever before. As someone who works in sport, it's super interesting, even though I'm terrible at golf.
I thought I was going out with my colleagues tonight, so I've nothing in for dinner. I'll nip into Aldi en route home and at the same time, swing by Matalan where my new phone is sitting waiting for me to collect.
Have a nice weekend everyone0 -
Enjoy your weekend Speky.
We are going up to Glasgow next August - we're going to see The Cure and Foo Fighters at the Glasgow Summer Sessions. We've just booked an Airbnb in Glasgow West. Never been to Scotland before so very excited!0 -
Good news about the jacket - although less so about the housekeeping lady...
Have a good weekend, and hope the golf was good (sorry but I detest golf so have no idea what it was or how it works :rotfl:)Not giving up

Speky - it's not often we meet people in life that leave such an impression on us. Go back to the hotel and ask that girl out. Keep going back until you find her. I think fate was at play here. Good luck!!0

I get awfully shy and seem to lose absolutely all my confidence in scenarios like that. It's so strange. I mean, I work in sales. I literally talk to people all day every day (and I am relatively good at it). But the moment it's a good looking girl, I crumble and the thought of going back just to ask for her number makes me nervous. As I say, I don't know why because I'm well aware that I've nothing to lose. Chances are I'll never see the girl again so why not?! Maybe I just need to give myself a pep-talk and grow some....well, you know.
Anyway. This was my first weekend in Manchester on my own. I didn't get up to much, but that's just what I needed. It was productive with doing various bits and bobs of life admin that had been neglected over the last month or so. Plus, I remembered to do my shopping on Saturday instead of Sunday this time!
I had the Sky engineer coming over to the flat at some point between 8am-1pm, so I'm working from home for the first part of the day. Once that's done, I'll head into work, which will on take me 15 minutes since it's not rush hour. But I need to be back by 6pm as my landlord has arranged for someone to come and change the lock on the door as her house was burgled, including a spare set of keys to my flat. Turns out the 3 guys who done it came the night before and cut the wires on their external lighting, then came during the night and took everything, including their 2 cars!! Scary stuff.
Right I must get on!0 -
Good morning my chums,
Yesterday I nipped home to get my locks changed and spoke to my landlord at the time too, he's such a nice guy. Aside from that, I didn't do too much. Managed a bit more Xmas shopping with the Cyber Monday deals that were on, so in the space of a weekend, I'm almost done.
No gym this morning. I quite simply could not be arsed, which isn't like me. I will go a run tonight though and do so through a guided run on the Nike app which I find quite useful.
Need to nip into Debenhams to return an item at lunch through a service called Doddle. Never heard of it before but you don't need packaging or stamps or anything. Just turn up with the product and the address and they'll get rid of it.0 -
Good morning everyone,
All plans yesterday went out the window when my colleague and I were offered 2 x tickets to the Manchester United game for FREE!! So I quickly went home, ate dinner and left again. The game was bang average but it's nice to get out an about. The Metro meant it was only 20 minutes away from where I stay which I was really pleasantly surprised by. I suppose it's also good to get out and get to know my colleague a bit better, it's small office after all.
Tonight I football training. Note: this is different to the usual game of football I play as this actually with a team who will ultimately play on Sunday morning. I figured it was a good opportunity to meet a few new boys and invariably get to know the area a bit better as we will play all over South Manchester.
With this in mind, I didn't go to the gym this morning. Now sitting in work nice 'n' early with a coffee and getting my day ahead organised.
Regarding The Girl From The Hotel, I'm going to take the advice of some of my chums on the O/S thread on this forum and I will phone the hotel and leave a thank you message for her and my phone number. Nothing too serious and it removes any awkwardness on my part too.0 -
You sound as though you're settling well in Manchester Speky and mucking in and getting involved in lots of stuff. Enjoy, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that she calls you.Not giving up

Morning everyone,
Last night I made dinner and started painting over the marks on the walls of the flat where the previous tenants had hung things. I recon I will repaint completely at some point but for now, and considering I'm renting, the odd scuff or splatter is just my version of OCD. I also had my first football training last night at 9pm. My colleague, whose also plays for them, was late in arriving so I had to introduce myself to the boys and they were all nice enough. I think they want me to play on Sunday morning, so I must have done something right.
My mum, step-dad and gran are coming down tomorrow for the weekend. I'm looking forward to letting my gran see my flat and the nice area, it'll give her peace of mind too. So I need the flat to be spic and span (hence the painting).
Tonight though, I have a busy one. My favourite football team (Rangers) are playing tonight and I've quickly found out that it won't be as easy for me to watch the matches down here. I think a few of my colleagues are going to join me in finding a local where we can watch it hopefully. After that, I need to make my dinner and finish tidying up. I was also considering making a chocolate orange cake for them but that is very much time dependant.
Oh and I called the hotel. I thought I read her name badge as Charlie and so I tried to check online if that was right but nothing came up. Anyway, I called and asked for her and the person I spoke with corrected me and said her name was Charlene and that she finished at 4. I asked to take down my number and pass it to her as I'd like to say thanks for helping find my jacket. So, job done it seems. But now I had her correct name, I checked online again and quite scarily the first thing that came up was her Facebook page. And to my disappointment she already has a man. Damn! So if she calls, I'll show her my gratitude and leave it there.0 -
Love your detective work..............It could be her brother !0
