  • Morning ,

A very late check in for due to a change in morning routine. Today is my last day for current employer and some of us caught up for a coffee early this morning in Tim Hortons. This was only do-able because I've not taken the car as tonight is my leaving do. I don't like the fuss but it is nice to see to everyone in a more relaxed environment. It's been a great 2 years and I've came on leaps and bounds in my career during the time due to being thrown in the deep end I suppose.

Night out tonight means I'll get the last train home at circa 11.30. Tomorrow morning is brunch at 10.30 with my cousins, then nip back to the office and collect my things for the final time before heading home, packing and getting ready for another night out with my friends from home.

Sunday I leave for Manchester around noon to check in to my hotel and get ready for my first week in my new job. It's all go!

Umbrella?! Surely not?! That's half the reason I left Scotland.

    Good morning everyone,

Reporting to you live from Manchester!!

After a busy few days last week with various leaving parties/drinks/dinners, I drove down on Sunday to stay in a local hotel for the first week, just until I get the keys to my flat.

So yesterday was my first day in the new job. It's a small office that I share, with only 3 other people there but they all seem very nice and friendly. The job itself and my daily tasks are similair to what I did in Scotland, so it shouldn't be much of a shock. The area, Altrincham, is really rather nice, with lots of nice little shops and a market, so I've no qualms there either.

I need to get my MSE hat on as dinners aren't included in my stay in the hotel and I can't afford to eat in the restaurant every night this week. Might have to resort to a Pot Noodle in the room haha!
  • Altrincham is rather nice - or at least it was 20+ years ago - my SIL and her family live nearby but we never seem to go there when we visit.

Hope the week goes well. Is the new flat in Altrincham or Manchester?

  • Joey - it's inbetween there actually which is ideal. I'm a short tram ride into the city centre if I fancy it and I am also a 10 minute drive to work. Best of both worlds really
  • Altrincham is well posh. Hale, even posher!

So I see!! Don't be fooled, I don't live in either of those areas :rotfl:

    Good morning chums,

Terrible nights sleep last night. Tossing and turning. Still hadn't slept by 1am. Subsequently, I've not been to the gym again this morning either. I might however give it a bash later today, we'll see how I feel.

Last night for dinner I opted for soup in the hotels restaurant which was £4 something. Not ideal but it'll do. I'll be a bit smarter tonight and shop for some bargains in the nearby supermarket.

My DM and Gran spent a couple of hours at my flat in Scotland last night to help pack and clean the flat in advance of leaving for good on Saturday, which was very kind of them. I'll need to get them a little thing to show my thanks.
  • Morning everyone,

Yesterday after work I walked to a nearby Tesco and bought some food for the hotel room to save any expensive dining out. I then spent the majority of my evening in my room, eating, watching TV and on the laptop. Was knackered though and so went to bed at around 9.30. Alas, 'the non-sleeping disease' has got hold of me as I couldn't get to sleep till around 2am.

Tonight my colleague has invited me to play football with his mates. Of course, I have no idea what the quality of the game will be like and only have his physique to base it on but I really appreciate the effort that he's going to to help me integrate.

On a financial front, I've completely lost track. Not used YNAB in over a month probably what with so much one of in and out payments, loans, relocation fees etc. So I am just being careful on what I spend. It's apparent that I've became very careful with money, even subconsciously. Getting into debt a few years ago has taught me lessons which I suspect I will continue to use for the rest of my days.

Really keen to get into my flat on Saturday. Then I recon I'll feel more settled. Every now and again this week, I've questioned myself - just for a few seconds. I've spoken to my mum every day and she's been telling me the things she's being doing to help me pack etc and I feel guilty. TGFW said to me (in the later stages), "well it's clear you're a career man and not a family man". I can't seem to shake that sentence. I'm sure this is all part of the teething that is to be expected with moving, but I do hope it passes.

Anyway. I must crack on :)
  • It's a massive change Speky - it will take time, and it's perfectly natural to wonder if you've done the right thing.
Hang on in there - it'll get easier once you get your own place.
