Ah Speky congratz on the new job. As a Mancunian born and bred (now living in Scotland) I know that it's a great place to be young. Loads of things to do and fantastic night life. I hope that you'll love it!
Glad to hear that your Gran is on the mend.
Ah CP, we've swappped :rotfl: Thank you
Morning everyone,
Yesterday was the day that I started to tell my colleagues that I was leaving which was greeted with shock and congratulations. Speaking to a few of my close colleagues, they suspect I'll be the 'first domino' and other will soon follow suit. Now, remember, TGFW is in my office there's been a tiny bit of awkwardness since we stopped seeing other due to my leaving. When the announcement was made, she had to pretend it was the first time she'd heard. She phoned me after work and asked what I thought of a long distance relationship and I told her that I don't think it would work, for me at least. I feel really bad but I'm sure in the future she'll see it was the right decision, maybe not right now.
Inbetween these calls I played football twice, back-to-back, then had a relatively early night.
Been up at the gym this morning and I'm not sure what I'll get up to tonight. Perhaps if the weather allows, I'll get back into some gardening at my mums before the really bad weather comes.0 -
Honesty is the best policy
Its a shame but she is obviously enjoying what you have0 -
Aww I feel for her, but you've been so honourable in this so hopefully she will just be able to remember the good stuff. You certainly haven't behaved badly or misled her - sadly there are lots around who would.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

I might have mentioned it before but on our first date, well I wouldn't say date, we kinda sneaked off from the works night out to get a drink ourselves, I told her then that I would know by the end of October if I was staying or going and the fact she was willing to take that gamble with me gave me complete reassurance and comfort. Throughout, my preference and hope was that my current employer would be able to keep me and that we could have had a longer relationship but alas not. I've been honest with her literally from the very beginning which perhaps alleviates some guilt in leaving.
But anyway, good morning everyone and happy hump day,
Last night the weather wasn't dry enough to garden so I made my dinner, healthy coconut covered chicken bites with steamed asparagus and sweet chilli sauce. Followed by Xbox with a couple of my pals. Was in bed before 10 but didn't doze off until nearer 11.
Need to phone my mortgage provider today and tell them I'm looking to rent out my property as I believe it needs to change to a Buy-To-Let agreement. I hope it's fairly straight forward. Still looking at properties in and around Manchester on Rightmove and I'll go down and visit some with my mum next week I recon.
Tonight's new recipe is crispy pork lettuce cups and then, if the weather is onside, I'll pop down to my mums and get rid of as much mares tail as possible.0 -
Morning all,
Yesterday was completely uneventful.
Gym > work > home > dinner > GBBO catch up > Xbox with my mates > bed for 9.45.
I'm continuing to look for properties in Manchester and looking to go down either this weekend or next to view them myself. Also, it appears it'll cost me close to £1,000 to rent my property out by the time I change my mortgage, use a letting agent to market it, their fees, PAT tests, smoke alarms etc. Oh well, it's the price you pay I suppose and will have to suck it up.
Today should be much the same as yesterday, although I'll try and be more productive on the Manchester front. Dill and buttermilk chicken tonight which is a new recipe. I also need to pop over and visit a neighbour and mate whose birthday is today.0 -
Congratulations on the job offer Speky! I don't live too far from Manchester and always enjoy days/nights out there.
It sounds like you did the right thing with TGFW and that you were always upfront and honest about it. A long distance relationship would really be pricey!
I hope you find what you are looking for soon in regards to accomodation in Manchester.Chandelier.

Morning everyone and happy Friday
Dark blue skies in Glasgow this morning.
Yesterday I spoke with my new boss for about an hour on the phone, just trying to tie up some lose ends. They're being very accommodating and flexible in my arrangements which is greatly appreciated. They've topped up my confidence that it was the right decision and we're collectively aiming for the 12th of November as my start date.
I had 2 friends of mine tell me they'd be interested in renting my flat. I told the costs to the 1st and it was too expensive and so said to number 2 and he said it was doable but will speak with this other half. The good news to this is it saves me £300 from the letting agents for their 'marketing fee'. The bad news is that whilst he's a friend and someone I've known for over 10 years, he's a bit volatile, unpredictable and sometimes even aggressive - but only when he's been out on the lash. Am I renting my flat to someone who might end up wrecking the place??? That being said, he owns his own business, has settled down with a nice woman and is absolutely fine and trustworthy when he's not had alcohol.
The other option of course is that I put it on the market and get someone who I don't know at all. Better the devil you know and all that?
After I got home from work last night, I made dinner and went to bed at 8.30pm with my alarm set for 5.30am. It's a bit of self experimentation, to see if I wake easier. I can confirm I was still tired when I work unfortunately, despite sleeping right through
Unsure what the plan is this evening and just realised I forgot to defrost my dinner. Damn!!!0 -
Good morning,
On Sunday, this friend of mine, came to view the flat with his Mrs. She's a very nice women, quiet and reserved. They both really liked the flat and seemed happy with everything (costs, term, utilities etc). So much so that an hour after they left, I got a text to say they'll take it!! My thinking is that it's better the devil you know. I could rent it to a stranger and they're a nightmare, so at least this way I can keep tabs easier. I'll speak to my letting agent and get things put in motion today. That's one less headache. I just need to figure out where I am going!
I booked a hotel for my mum and I for this Friday in Manchester. We'll travel down straight from work and then go to as many viewings as possible on the Saturday. She's got a good eye for things like this and it's nice for her to feel involved in the process.
I've been to the gym this morning and after work I've got 2 games of football back to back. Poached eggs, bacon and sourdough for dinner.0 -
Good morning everyone,
I played football back to back last night and the wind was crazy. Couldn't hit over head height otherwise it was flying away. And the wind doesn't seem to have changed much this morning either.
Nonetheless I scrapped myself up and went to the gym today. After work I've got my new tenants coming round to take measurements of the flat etc. Aside from that, I've got diddly squat planned.
For various reasons, it was just TGFW and I in the office yesterday and for the first time I sensed some awkwardness. I feel though that it was mostly in my head. We've got to stop chatting at some point and get on with work but I couldn't help but feel when we did that, it was because it was small talk. I'm probably over thinking it.
I'll give my gran a call today at some point as I believe she was planning to go home today. That will be almost 5 weeks since her heart attack and 2 weeks since her heart surgery, so a relatively quick turnaround. Let's walk before we can run.
Yesterday marked 3 years since I joined this lovely forum, and what a change in circumstances since then! :money: Although, I am proper skint right now (2 days before payday) but it's not actually as bad as my bank balance suggests as I've some additional spends through expenses. I suspect the next month or two will be quite telling in forecasting my future finances. There's a lot to juggle but once the dust has settled, I should be in a better position overall.
I've had 2 coffees and it's not even 9am yet. Ready to fire through work now :j :rotfl:0 -
Hello Specky
I've been on holiday and couldn't post but I've been following you. You've done really well to sort things out over the last three years. You're an inspiration!
Glad your wee Gran is picking up. I think five weeks from going in to hospital and getting home is pretty good.
Still windy here, isn't it? I'm about to bite the bullet and make my way to the hairdresser.
Have a good day.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0
