Morning everyone,
Happy St Andrew's Day to my fellow Scots. I've sauntered into work with my kilt and my "see you jimmy hat" on.
Yesterday after work, my 2 closest colleagues and I went to a pub round the corner for a beer and deliberately not talk about work, which was nice. They're good guys. Whilst I was there my phone rang and it was Charlene from the hotel and given what I knew, I simply told her I wanted to personally say thanks. Showing appreciation can often mean a lot to people so I'm glad I did it.
After the drink I quickly darted home to watch the football which took me till 10pm and bed time.
I've been to the gym this morning for the first time this week and I'll leave work sharp as my mum, step-dad and gran are coming up. Their ETA is 7pm and I need to get all the shopping in and a final tidy before they arrive, I should manage ok. My weekend will be spent with them mostly, which is nice and I'm really looking forward to it.0 -
Hopefully Charlene will store your number in her phone in case her circumstances change any time soon. You just never know!
Great to hear you're embracing your new life in Manchester and settling in so well.
Enjoy your weekend with your family x0 -
Good morning everyone,
This weekend was lovely as my family came down to Manchester to visit. It was mainly for my gran to come and see the area and my flat and I'm glad to say she approves. We all put up the Christmas decorations and I got a real tree from Ikea (£20 voucher to use in the new year too). I also took them all to dinner as I promised I would as a thank you for all their help and support with the move. So it was a bit of a spendy weekend but it was all in budget and accounted for.
I also managed to update YNAB for the first time in a coupe of months. There was so much money flying about with the move (borrowed from mum, one of expenses to rent, one of expenses to rent out my flat etc) that it was impossible to keep track. Now that the dust has settled I've created a fresh start on YNAB and I can see where I am at again - which pleases me no end! As it stands, I'm all under control in advance on Christmas and I have every intention to keep it that way. Remember: a big reason why I took this job was because of the extra money and it will allow me to save!!! I doubt I will save much this December because of Christmas but going into the new year, I have no excuses.
I skipped the gym this morning to go to a call tonight instead. I figured that's another way to meet new people by chucking me in a sweaty gym with strangers, so we'll see how this class goes. Ham omelette for dinner tonight.
No plans the rest of this week as it stands, so I'll be sure to keep myself busy. I might do some surveys too. :money:0 -
Good morning everyone,
A very foggy morning here in south Manchester.
Yesterday after work I attended the gym class which was awfully hard work. I do believe that those sort of things are only as good as the effort you put in, so I was a sticky sweaty mess after the 30 minutes were up. I quickly headed home, made my dinner and played with some of my pals on the Xbox before bed.
I got up for the gym this morning and I've actually got stuff with me to go again tonight, however I've a few errands to run so I think I'll give it a miss tonight.
Can anyone here advise...?
I moved to Manchester in the middle of November and yet I've been charged the full amount for my council tax for the flat in Scotland and I've got a bill through the door for the full amount for the flat in England too. Surely this can't be right? Should they both not be pro-rata?0 -
It's been a while Speky since I last posted but congratulations on the move to Manchester.
I live only an hour away so a cheeky wave from Lancashire!
Have you explored the areas much?Chandelier.

Hey Chandelier, good to 'see' you again and thanks for stopping by.
I haven't really. I've been quite busy in my weekends off but I will venture further afield this weekend I recon. Happy to hear of any recommendations.0 -
I have a feeling that it isn't as quick as you'd like with the council tax. You will either get, or have to claim a rebate for the additional tax paid in Scotland - and you may have to do something similar with Manchester too. I'm not sure that the systems are the same either. One thing I do know is that they are not joined up.
When we moved here we had to claim our refund from our London borough. Whether we had to debate anything this end, I can't remember.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

Hey Joey! I've sent both councils an email yesterday and I will follow up in the coming days if I haven't heard back. Sounds like it could be a bit of a pain.
Quick check in for me as I'm running a bit late this morning.
Last night I spent much of the evening ticking off my to do list which included phoning both councils to tell them about my council tax issues, sorting my contents insurance for my new gaff, speaking to sky about my higher than expected bill and sending images to my landlord of what appears to be damp in my spare room.
Productive.
I think I'll aim for much of the same again today/tonight. I need to make a few calls this afternoon and make some appointments (dentists etc). I've got football training tonight with my new team, 9pm-10pm, so I skipped the gym this morning.0
