  • Using YNAB I had worked out we had a shortfall of at least £600 to be able to go away and pay all bills etc this month. My amazing father has just transferred £1000 to my account so we are now more than covered until universal credit comes in (provided it does, can't even think about what . The relief is immense :j

The joy of YNAB is that I am now allocating this money instead of using it as an excuse to take my eye off the ball. We will also get the child benefit while we're away but that shouldn't get touched. My dad is an actual real life angel :A

And it doesn't stop there - he went for a wander with DS1 at the local farmers market that he helps run (relevant because he gets discounts as all the stallholders love him) and bought me a bag of organic veg and a leg of lamb! :T

I feel like there are glimmers of light at the end of the tunnel. I am now going home to do 20 minutes of housework and 20 minutes of scary paperwork. Baby steps.
  • Just realised how outing that last post is because everyone I'm friends with knows my dad buys me random legs of lamb :rotfl:
  • More progress:

Rang Capital One and asked to reduce interest rate. They told me to do one :rotfl:

Rechecked entitled to and got an estimate of benefits.

Did SOA using this figure and then snowball calculator and found out...drum roll please...if we get UC we can clear CC debt easily in 15 months saving about £4k of interest and 40 months
  • Went to see my closest friend this afternoon. She had bought me a huge bag of Maltesers because she thought I deserved a treat. A small thing but oh so welcome! We drank tea, ate chocolate and talked lots. And she didn't mind me fiddling with YNAB while we talked :D

Now sitting on the sofa about to watch Tuesday's Sewing Bee with DD. Had an enormous Chinese meal for supper, we're all stuffed and there are leftovers. Did the whole thing for £3 per person. Probably could have fed 8 though ;)

We had chicken stir fry, egg fried rice, spring rolls, prawn crackers, gyoza (ok, they're not Chinese!), chicken balls and hoi sin sauce and soy sauce. Plus green tea. All homemade, all delicious. So full but it was lovely to all cook together (except DS2 who was a) filthy and b) grumpy so he was sent for a bath while we cooked).

It was like something from a really cheesy film :rotfl:

  • Another day on Walton's mountain.

I am resenting the weekend because I can't get accurate bank balances :rotfl:

Shouldn't need to spend much today and all spends are budgeted for :T

Might fill my car as have time to wait in the queue at the cheap petrol station. DH needs to get something fixed on his car so it will pass it's MOT - will be about £30. DS1 rugby this morning, DD rugby this afternoon.

    Stuff to do today:
    Meal plan
    Aldi shop
Brave the box of doom (hideous paperwork)
Clean boys' bedroom. ?shovel ?flamethrower
    Shop around for broadband deal
Tweak YNAB to add things I keep remembering :o
    Plan holiday spends
Have a look for things to sell on Facebook - thought this could be a good hobby for the not very mobile husband
Need to shift a couple of things into the loft
    Take DS1 to rugby
Pick up Amazon order from friend - she kindly put it on Prime for me, saving me £6 postage. It's a cookie cutter for some baking I'm doing next week which I will be paid for. This will be the start of my emergency fund.
Fold and stow the clothes from the floordrobe
    Loads of washing x 3
    Change beds
    Buy rotary airer
    Unload dishwasher
    Reload dishwasher

Think that lot should shut me up for a bit ;)
  • Probably need to get out of bed first.
