Thank you for your constructive comments naedanger. I thought from the forum post that if I had the receipt that I could use Consumer Rights Act, I will go back and re-read it.
I agree you could take action against the retailer rather than Indesit. But my point was that even if you won your case against the retailer the remedy that they would be obliged to offer would not need to be any better than what Indesit are already offering. (As far as I am aware.)
  • I've had a second email offering me a replacement for cash.

I'm happy to do this just to get it resolved but I would like to know of the machines which is the best value for money.

Can't seem to find reviews for these machines.

    Anybody know?

Do you have a question on Consumer Rights? If not, I suggest you visit some electronic review sites for the answer to your question...
  • Hi
I had my tumble dryer modified in February and ever since its been getting red hot on the lowest setting
Clothes so hot I can't touch them. The metal drum is so hot you can't touch it.
I clean my filter all the time yet I still get the problem.
Has anybody else had this issue please or offer any advice?
    Thanks
    Jamie

Just my experience. Made a s.75 claim against Nationwide Credit Cards (original retailer was Comet) in respect of my 6 1/2 year old tumble dryer. They refused the claim on the basis that Hotpoint had offered to repair.

I referred the matter to the FOS. They have now made a final decision that NCC are liable and awarded £150 compensation.

Radio 4 covered this on their You and Yours consumer program, with input from Trading Standards. I can't post a link as new, but it's well worth a listen.

I haven't taken up the replacement machine offer. I don't see why a company should get more money (even if at loss) from me. I was originally told It would be repaired in December, then in April, I contacted their helpline shortly after that deadline passed. Each time they've called I am either driving or at work so the message goes to my voice mail with the reassurance that they will call me back. This happened again last week. I purchased it from Comet and as its 4+ years old I can't see them refunding me. I work from home and while the sun is out its not a problem. I don't have the spare funds to go out and buy a replacement myself. Buying drying racks is preferable to babysitting a machine.
    Bonus...save a fortune on electricity ;) :T

I am about to get a partial Section 75 refund for my Hotpoint dryer. I went to the Financial Ombudsman for a full refund but they deemed partial to be reasonable. Is there a reason I cant then use the partial refund to then buy a £49/£99 dryer from Hotpoint as part of their redress scheme ?

    Advise much appreciated.

You will need to ask Whirlpool/Hotpoint that.

But if you have to return your faulty dryer in order to get the refund, you will then have nothing to give to Whirlpool in part exchange.

On the other hand, if you are getting a refund and are being allowed to keep your existing machine, I can see no problem with you proposal.
  • I've had my tumble dryer modified. They left me with an old panel which i had to dispose of, and several screws were not replaced properly so side fell off when we moved it. I'm now worried to use as front door gets really hot. Am i too late to try for replacement or refund??

I think you will need to ask Whirlpool/Hotpoint that question.
I cannot imagine anyone on an internet forum will know the answer.
