  • Right I'll add to the mix on this.

My Mom has a Creda TVU1, bought from Currys, approximately 2010 and was notified last year of a potential fault with this dryer, causing it to catch fire.

She registered her details and waited....unfortunately they registered her under an incorrect address (wrong spelling and wrong postcode), so if an engineer were to try and come round, they probably wouldn't find the house. So my Mom called them and they said they would amend the address (this was July 2016). Now she's received another letter dated Sept 2016, again saying about the fault but when my Mom has called them, they said she wasn't registered at this address (which is now the correct one). I have now had to go online again and register the details.

My Mom said the persons attitude was not good and she was told to go online (to repair) and speak to them face to face. I suspect this was just a fob-off.

Having looked at the website I can't find anything such as online chat, so it looks like another wait for them to contact my Mom with some half-baked promise.

Any advice please on what to do? Sorry to ramble on.

    Thanks in advance.

Fire brigade calls for urgent action on faulty tumble dryers after one device is blamed for huge tower block blaze that took 120 firefighters to put it out
A faulty tumble dryer subject to a safety notice was the cause of a huge tower block fire, an investigation has found.
Following the conclusion of our investigation we are now appealing once again for them to change their advice and bring it into line with our own. Thankfully there were no serious injuries in the Shepherd's Bush fire but we may not be so lucky if it happens again.
  • I did exactly the same as you I checked mine immediately when the safety notice came out and was told mine wasn't affected however a letter landed 2 weeks ago to say I had not registered my machine and I needed to check it was affected...surprise surprise it is, it amazes me how they knew to contact me about it if I hadn't registered it (I register everything immediately)

Looks like Hotpoint are now taking this a bit more seriously by telling owners not use them at all until repaired.

  • Have just called Hotpoint.
Told them I reject their offer of a "fix"...which could take up to a year?? Also asked about the £59 replacement - not possible for our address with a Scottish Highland Postcode??!
This is clear discrimination, if other customers (IN THE UK) are being offered this??
We still live in the UK...last time I checked anyway...
  • Daughter has a dryer she has been battling them for a while for a full replacement, they have offered a replacement if she pays around £70-90 depending who she speaks too, ill update her on the do not use info

I had a Hotpoint dryer, but it caused a house fire 4 years ago (just before the warnings started coming out!) I'm wondering now, if it was a proven fault with multiple models, whether I can get compensation from Hotpoint? My house insurance coverage was awful and I was left really out of pocket as a result. I'd like to recoup my losses. Any ideas?

Lawyers say that rather than going to Whirlpool, customers should demand help from the shop where they bought the machine
  • We got fed up waiting and paid the £99 for a new one only last month. Now that they manufacture has changed their process do you think I can get my £99 back?

I got fed up waiting for a repair and they offered me a new one for £99.
I didn't take it, and then they offered me a new one for £49 which I took.
I have only had it a few months only to find it too is on the fire risk register. They are offering me a repair. No point asking for my money back, at £49, that won't buy me a new one, so I think I will email them today and say I want a replacement. I don't really want a repair done
