Okay so after a lot of umming and ahhing, D decided to apply to work at the same place as me.
It means 5k more a year (more hours and a normal contract not termtime like he was before) and then we had to decide what shift he would apply for.
Same shift as me meant no bus fair to pay (I drive and he doesn't), more time as a family but it also meant childcare.
Opposite shift means no childcare but D would have to get the bus to work which depending on shift times can be very difficult and add on an extra 1/2hr to his day (bear in mind my work is only a 10 minute drive but awkwardly placed compared to decent bus routes), the main negative would be we'd never see each other. One would leave the house at 7am and we would pass M between us during shift change and then not home until 10.30pm! And thats only based on the times I would get in/leave, the buses would mean an extra hour either side.
So we went for the first option, to be on the same shift as each other and he got the job! We now both have year round full time contracts, we'll also have more time as a family.
The increased amount in childcare is worth it as it isn't much and amounts to more or less what D was paying for buses before anyway!
Next week is his first week and also the first week of the christmas rota, which to be honest looks scary! One week we are doing 54hrs. In total I've worked out in the 6 week christmas rota, we will get paid an extra £588 each in overtime alone. We've agreed just to put all overtime towards our credit card and attempt to get it back to zero! Alongside our normal payments, I plan to of paid this off by the time the christmas rota is over (its the second week in Jan I think)0 -
What we owe...
So its just a bit crazy with money right now so to get back to what we need to pay off...
Credit card: £1674.88 *cries*
Emergency savings: £200 back in to top it up
Car insurance debt: £650
Honeymoon: £1241.80
We've actually changed our honeymoon which ended up saving us £750 to what we were originally going to pay. We loved the holiday in October but weren't keen on the resort holidays as I didn't feel I really got to see Mexico so we've changed our honeymoon to a cruise around the med. I love that we'll be able to get off ship and explore places, this is more my kind of thing. Its also cheaper so very happy there!0 -
