Urchhhh's new diary :)

Options
I had a diary on here before but I didn't keep it updated and a lot has changed so decided to start a nice new shiny diary.

Bit of a back story, we're an engaged early 20s couple with a 10 month old daughter and two cats. We currently live in rented accommodation which thankfully is cheap rent but with expensive heating (COME ON WARM WEATHER). To make it easier, I'm going to refer to my daughter as M and my partner as D.
D works fulltime and I'm currently on supply. I'm looking for a permanent job but getting one not too far away and not fulltime is proving difficult. Our main goal is to save up for a house and buy it when M. We are aiming to save a deposit of £60k in the next 6 years. I'm going to break this goal down yearly and maybe smaller ones also.

Our main goal is to save £10,000 between us in 2016. We have agreed to split this 50/50 so my goal is £5000. I've worked this out to be just over £416 a month which would mean at the end of the month I should have £1248. If I add an extra £2 to that it makes 25% complete in 25% of the year.

I actually only have £125 in my account so far which means I would need to add an extra £1125 into my account this month to get back to where I need to be. I aim to do this within the next few months. I should manage to at least add £800 into my account this month due to money I am due from an old employer which should come in within the next few weeks.

I can add £200 to my ISA every month and the rest of it I will put in a separate account.

When I was still pregnant my mum bought me some reusable nappies. I didn't really know much about them so I just put them in my cupboard and forgot about them.
In the last few days I have started to try them out and I am so happy with them so far! I've spent £22.99 on some more. I only had 8 so I have bought 5 more which is enough for 2-3 days. Overnight nappy will be disposable until I work all this out and we have a lot of disposables already bought to go through still!
The liners work out to 1.4p each.
I'm also now looking into reusable wipes (we still have loads of wipes in the house to use up anyway) and reusable sanitary wear.
This is mainly for cost reasons. I plan to have more children and the nappies have been not much of a cost to me so I will reuse them and the savings will be greater! But also the impact on the environment will be good!
    Its so exciting!

I tried to convince D to use reusable wipes instead of toilet paper.... I'm assuming by his horrified face its a no!

So a few days in to the nappies...

I cut up an old fleece blanket. It made 87 15x15cm squares. Plenty for using for wipes.

I've bought some more nappies online so I have 13 in total now which will last us 3/4 days so I'll be able to do 2 nappy washes a day. So far so good! If this works out I can reuse them for our next child too:) Lots of pennies to be saved!

Excellent move to the cloth nappies and wipes. A real money saver! It is so so much more environmentally sound. Good job!:A:A:A

Life has got so expensive :(

We booked our wedding... and our honeymoon to follow.

So currently we stand to do...

Park tickets for holiday: £160 left to pay
Wedding saving: £6000 left to save
    Honeymoon: £2476 left to pay
Credit card: £313.32 left to pay
Emergency savings: £75 left to put in (will be at £500)
Car insurance: £1116.78 (had an accident last year my insurance won't cover the claim made against me so have to pay it back. Payment plan set up)

    Grand total: £10,141.10

Its a crazy amount of money. On top of this we need to book flights to London (theatre tickets and hotel already paid for) and have spending money for our holiday in October (won in competition), all inclusive so won't need much.
We have £1000 saved for our holiday in July (grandparents taking us), we're going to be wise with our money and we hope to bring back money to put towards bills as I won't be working or getting paid for the 3 weeks we are away.

Need to find a permanent job. I'm only supply and this much money needs regular pay

House deposit saving isn't happening as much as we wanted to originally. We've decided to try and save at least £100 a month if possible for it until after the wedding!
  • Heyyyyyy,

Oh you have lot's to look forward to, I am a bit jealous!

When are you getting married & where are you off to on honeymoon?

We are 5 years married this August & if I could do it all over again I would in a minute, was the best time ever.

We are also looking to be saving for the next 4-5 years for a house deposit, I do have a savings diary on here but without much savings I have been leaving it right now.

Might just keep it up to date anyway life always has a habit of getting in the way of those plans we make.

Between now & April 2017 our main focus is getting rid of the debt, then the savings will start.

Anyway subscribing, have a nice day.

    Dxxx
