Dealer sold an unroadworthy car

I too would not have gone near a vehicle that hasn't been serviced (or presumably even had an oil change) in nearly 4 years, yet has done nearly 30K in that period, What does that tell you about the previous owner's approach to maintenance? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Makes getting a refund a bit harder, buying a car sold as having problems, surely must make it harder to bail on it?"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

There's at least one typo in the post ... MOT shows as January 2017.
I would take that to mean current MOT valid until January 2017 rather than that being the last MOT done. When we bought our car a year ago they were all advertised as MOT valid until xxxxxx rather than MOT done xxxxxxx
Saying that, reading the rest of the ad there is no way I would ever have considered buying this car. Just the complete lack of maintenance would set alarm bells ringing, and what decent seller would sell without changing the battery knowing it was an issue.
OP did your sister contact the seller at all to make them aware of the problems before spending money on a mechanic diagnosing faults?0 -
If you are talking cars then no, it doesn't help. Cars are exempt from any requirement to accept PayPal.
I think it's Classified Ads that are exempted rather than all 'cars'. You can still sell cars via auctions and BINs where they would be subject to the normal rules.Silver-Surfer wrote: »Not for cars.0 -

No cars and motor vehicles are exempt from the paypal requirement. It does concern me that sellers might no be aware of that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Must be mad to buy a car that has done 30,000 miles without having had a service done in the last 3.5 years.0

To summarise
car bought from trader advertising on ebay as private seller=illegal
car sold that an independant garage have checked over and are giving a report to say car is dangerous is this dangerous because of the fitness to drive or a more serious problem like damaged suspension?
After giving all the relevant facts to your local citizens advice they should be guiding you that you agree to get the vehicle back to the selling dealer and have him fix the problem, the waters are slightly muddied because a third party has had his head under your bonnet and it could be argued he might have fitted battery wrong thus blowing a module on your car
basically you need to contact selling dealer see what he has to say and armed with the advice you received from citizens and what he says come back here and see if anyone can advise further
for the record although it is an offence to trade as a private seller in this country if you are trade ebay does nothing about it even though it is unfair trading0 -
Unless I missed this.
where does it say the trader was listing as private?
Also we are yet to see what is supposed to be wrong with the car.0 -
I had a C4 Picasso automatic and it was great - never had a problem at all with it.
But no service in that length of time should have made you run a mile.0
