Daily OS Mon Sept 03

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sun 2nd Sept. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread
after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning all! (almost!) I woke up - bang - and can't get back to sleep, so I've come on here.................

Going to plan out the chutneys etc I am going to make, my DH wants me to make a fruitcake as well as xmas pud and I have about 8 different things I want to do - now I have the jars (thanks to a link from here) - that cost about 15p each, I can make as many different ones as I like.

Other than that, its the same old same old. I may go to bed again later - the paraetecmol my DH keeps buying has caffeine in them and I guess thats why I haven't been sleeping well. Going to get him to get me a different kind.

((((HUGS))))

Have a great day, all - and a great first day back at school for those who are going back today!

After dinner last night we played a cut-thoat game of bingo with the children.
My Mum would be spinningin her grave at the thought of that on a Sunday. When I was small sunday was confined to church, church, sunday school and yet more church. No wonder my joints aren't too good with all that kneeling down in damp draghty churches:rotfl:
My joints woke me this morning at 04.15.so maybe there is rain in the way,it usually is.
Hope eveyone has a good Monday morning.Summer seems to be over now and its 16 weeks tomorrow until Christmas ,so I was told by my grandson yesterday.I think he likes to remind me in case I may forget :rotfl: He starts at his new grammar school tomorrow and he dressed up in is new uniform to show me how smart he looked .He looks so grown up and he's losing his little boys looks now .They grow up so quickly nowadays .My DDs youngest Mikey will be starting next week and she will be without a little one around her feet for the first time in 14 years ,I know she will find it hard as she never goes anywhere without a baby or two..I keep reasuring her that she will get used to it after awhile.
Well time I went and put the kettle on as it doesn't look like I am going to get back to sleep so <<hugs>> to those in need and a big:D to those in need of one just because its Monday. I am going to have a go at ironing with my left arm today so the air in JackieO towers will be a bit blue:eek:

    Good morning everyone,

Sorry i havnt been around much this weekend, have been very busy!!!

Saturday DS had his first league match, and the boys won 13 - 0!!! DS scored one goal, and set up quite a few others before being tackled and ending up in a heep - i had to stop myself running onto the pitch when his coach was holding up fingers for him to count, but he got up and carried on. Told me later that he had landed on his cheek and had felt a bit dizzy but was fine.
I then had 3 MS to do, one included being away overnight, and we had a lovely time - although DS didnt want all his dinner (or DD, both managed about half, but they were adult portions) as he started to feel dizzy again, of course, that scared me a bit, so gave him some paracetamol and went back to our room (missing out on pud). Anyway, he felt fine later, so luckily i had brought some HM cake with us, so we had that instead.

Yesterday they met up with their dad (first time since June) for the day - so i was able to pop in Plymouth on my own and do a little shopping (DS is 11 soon, so nice i could get the last few bits without him trying to see what ive bought!!!) Then, after lunch (i treated myself to a self serve salad from Morrisons, lovely) my friend came round with a bottle of wine and some eggs (her in laws keep chickens, so very welcome gift!!!). We had a lovely time putting the world to rights and eating some of the millionaire shortbread that i made on Friday. DS and DD got back at 5, and told us that Daddy is going to move to Birmingham!! Sorry Birmingham but your loss is our gain!!!!

Had a few hours sleep last night, but i did cheat and take a tablet, so feeling bit lathargic at the moment, but the first LO doesnt get here until 8, so i have a little time to come to a bit more.

Ok, better get on, ((HUGS)) to anyone who wants or needs one, ive not been able to catch up on the threads this weekend, so i have no idea what anyone has been up to, so i hope ive not missed anything important.

    Have a lovely day,
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well OH officially retired now First day of the rest of our lives!!! He is peacefully sleeping with no alarm after over 30 years hard at it.
    An amazing feeling.

We had the most wonderful weekend. On Sturday evening Oh and I took our 3 children out for a lovely meal . They had bought him a really lovely present and he had unwrapped my retirement survival box which I have been adding to over the weeks. Everyone was on really good form and it was so super to be happy and all together.

Morning. Got woken up at 2.30 this morning as the daughters hamster had escaped and was running around our bedroom. It's a quick one too... Got that one back in and then the dog wanted to go out.... I hate waking up when I am really deep in sleep.

I have a few days off. Son goes to college for the first day today. I have to fix some MOT items on the OH car and then do an oil change.

The memorial service for the Newquay fire victims went well, there were laods of people there, many had come down from Staff's where most of the residents at he time were from. The manager was there and looked ill. It must be a real weight to carry about for the rest of your life even though it may not have been his fault directly.

BBQ pork chops for tea I think. Have a nice day everyone,,

:rotfl:Looks as if broken sleep is a theme to day (having said that I slept like a log. I'm glad the service went well. We used to catch my gerbils by upending a (empty!) bin over them and grabbing them when we lifted an edge.

Having left uni/school I still feel a slight twinge in early Sept, (mostly fossilised guilt from years of not doing my Summer homework!). I'm now grown-up enough that a couple of my contemporaries have qualified as teachers and are starting their first term. Good luck to everyone going back or sending children on their way.

As for me, it's another lovely day's work. I'm looking forward to my risotto tonight, though. But whomever put 100+ calories in just 30g of parmesan is mean.

  • Morning all
Work for me today after 6 weeks off, the lodgers is up & ironing her clothes for work. She's coming in with me at 7:30 so she can get her bearings.
Fish pie for tea tonight, so must remember to get some more eggs to go in it. I'll serve it with cabbage & carrots.
I still have some cold chicken left from yesterday, so chicken sarnies for lunch, we have 2 or 3 birthdays in the admin team this week, so I've not baked anything for work as there will be enough cakes around.
I'm wearing a pair of my new shoes today so I should be comfortable.
I slept well last night, I bought myself a CHILLOW, it was so expensive I really wasn't sure whether or not I should, but it worked so well. The downside is that it contains 2 litres of water so is fairly heavy to move if it slips down the bed. The up side is, a permenantly cold pillow, so it cuts down on the hot flushes & therefor I sleep better.
Hope everyone has a good day
    Hugs Hester

    Goodmorning everyone,

Had a real OS day today. Made washing powder, hot chocolate mix, bread, date loaf & Impossible Pie this morning. Phew :D & been out in the yard this arv. DH didn't need to work today so he's been building our bedroom cupboards. I need to paint tomorrow. Off to visit my sister Thursday so that will be nice.

I also didn't have a good night's sleep. Think the afternoon nap yesterday had something to do with it. DD enjoyed the concert although she likes Silverchair's older music than then new stuff.

Hope you all have a lovely day. Beautiful weather here atm. :p Byeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning to everyone.

GOOD LUCK to all those returning to school today and going for the very first time - which will be my DGD on Thursday.

CATOWEN - that was a brilliant football score! Well done to your DS.

AMIE - enjoy your day to yourself!

Well, DS1 and DIL invited me to dinner last night; DIL cooked a beautiful roast which was delicious. I didn't have the heart to tell them that I had made myself a roast at lunchtime so I was well and truly stuffed by the time I came home. DIL is starting to feel sad about DGD starting school on Thursday; she's really going to miss her because she's such good company. DGS goes back to school today - he's moving up to junior school so I hope he likes it - it's a big day for lots of children - and their mums!

DS2 and his GF have returned from their wonderful holiday in Majorca and GF starts her new teaching job today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her. They'll pop round after work today so I'm looking forward to that.

To go with the start of term, there's a real autumn feel to the air. I like this time of year even though it means that winter's on the way. I'm starting to think about Christmas and cooking winter meals and snuggling down on a cold Sunday afternoon to snooze on the sofa - I'm trying not to think about scraping the windscreen first thing in the morning and all the other horrible bits of winter.

Three days until I go to France so I'd better start thinking about what I'm taking. I'm flying out so can't take too much, but sailing back, so we can stock up on lots of wine, beer, cheese, French bread flour, olive oil, jam, Savon de Marseille soap and maybe some Christmas presents.

I spoke to my mum last night; she lives in Wiltshire and, a few weeks ago, two wild female cats had given birth at the bottom of her garden. They had each had two kittens so she's been putting food and drink out for the mums. The local cat rescue centre gave her loads of cat food and a couple of traps so she could catch them all when the babies were old enough. She has spent the last four nights running outside in her dressing gown everytime she hears the trap and her neightbour has helped her take them to the rescue centre. They managed to catch the randy wild tom who's been fathering all the babies, too. Result is: four adorable kittens rehomed (my mum already has two cats so, though tempted, didn't keep any of them), one tom and two females who have all be 'done' but returned to the end of the garden. Apparently, they cannot be 'homed' because they are too feral. I think my mum has done a wonderful job - it can't have been fun wandering round the garden with a torch collecting cat traps!

I need to make a birthday card for DS1 today (he's 36 on Friday!); he's cricket mad and I've found a photo of a Victorian lady playing cricket so I'm going to use that as the basis for the card. I'm going to try wrapping his presents up in brown paper which I'll stamp with the fantastic stamp set I bought from a charity shop recently so that will be fun. I'll get DGS to help me when he comes round after school tomorow.

Anyway, I only popped in to say good morning to everyone and I've really waffled so I'm off to have my shower now. See you all later and have a great day, everyone.
