  • I've received the application pack and am going to do it all today but I have a question about the application form.

I know that some people on here have got in and don't have a degree - did you say in the application form that you didn't have a degree? There is a drop down box where you have to say yes or no.

    Many thanks,

    Sophie

Without meaning to sound stupid, how do you find the answers do you google them? and what about if you get a question like what do I wear to a party how would you know what is right or wrong there?

I am thinking of applying any helpful tips apprecited, I have a baby and this type of job from home would be fab!

    MSE is great:j
  • Kaza yes I googled most of my answers. For the what to wear questions put in a fun and friendly answer. Just like you wld advise a friend!Something like ' something that makes you feel fab and comfortable. Start with your favorite colour and material'

  • Another question. If i get accepted for this and start getting paid by them, does it count as a "real" job? I'm a freelance web designer and because i'm freelance and not officially "Self-employed", the bank won't upgrade my bank account (I HATE Visa Electron, loads of places don't accept it). So, if i go to the bank after getting this (IF I get it) will i be able to use this as my "job"?

Part of me thinks yes because they ask for your NI number and referees but at the same time, it's more of a casual job where i only do it if/when i want.

    Anyone have any ideas?

What are you saying is the difference between being freelance and being self-employed? I'm a freelance editor and I'm registered as self-employed for tax & NI. Do you mean you want to have a business bank account?

Well i'm just starting out as a freelance web designer (just finished uni) and i'm not registered as self-employed yet for tax and stuff. At the minute, i'm just trying out the odd job to see if it's for me before i go getting taxed. So as a result, the bank sees my as "unemployed" and for this reason, they won't upgrade my bank account. So, reasons aside, does AQA count as a "proper job"?

I think the rule is that you have three months from when you start out to register as self-employed - so if you've already done paid work, then you should be getting in touch with HMRC. AQA researchers work on a self-employed basis, so if you sign up with them you will need to register as self-employed in any case. So being a researcher will be as much 'proper' self-employed work as any other - I guess the question then will be whether your bank is happy to upgrade your account on the basis of the amount of money you've got coming in.

I'm a bit naughty, and I use my personal bank account as my bank account for my business - I think strictly the bank would say I should open a 'business' bank account, but they've never complained so I keep my head down and stick with my free account.
