With home insurance, you should ask your insurer - I'm with Virgin, and they are happy with work of that type from home.

Interesting. I live at home with parents and Norwich Union say they must be informed and it could mean I need extra insurance for my PC as it would not be covered by the Home Contents Insurance  Does anyone know what they may be talking about here?
  • I didn't even get an automated reply so have emailed them again - they'll probably think I'm a pushy nutcase but you don't get if you don't ask i suppose.

Are they just talking about not covering the PC itself, nothing else? Because I would have thought that the cost of a PC good enough to do AQA work is, what, about £1000 max? So probably not worth insuring separately, I would have thought (and you aren't holding any data which would have a money value). They are being a bit silly, because most houses now contain a PC, monitor, printer etc, so it is not as if you are filling the house up with expensive kit.

I've just bought a new PC for sub-£400 that's more than adequate for AQA work. My old PC was more than capable and was probably worth under £100 at today's prices! So I wouldn't worry too much.

Sounds like your bank is trying to flog you products. Your parents home content insurance should cover your computer. If your computer is cheap, it's not worth paying for insurance really.

I don't think anyone needs a 'business account' to do AQA work.
I've done self-employed work before and used my personal bank account. My bank has never contacted me about needing a business account or more insurance. I also know people who have their own business and just use a personal account as the business account offers them little more service. They are not obliged to get a business acount.
  • is the work quite easy to do?
    :A
  • I applied 2 days ago but have had no reply. When I send off a reminder what should I say.Do I just reapply?
  • They are still advertising vacancies so maybe they have got snowed under with trying to reply.

I haven't received an automated reply yet, have to be patient though!
