Draughty rockdoor

  • I can close the door no problem - locks easily. If I am being picky - there is a slight draught near the handle but not much. The main problem is around is around all three hinges.

The hinges need adjusting so the door slab is closer to the Gasket on the outside THIS IS A FITTER ISSUE not manufacture

Yes, I realized that, but it is a massive waste of time for me. this thread started in March after at least a couple of months of phone calls.

In fairness the fact that the door was warped had nothing to do with the installer and neither him nor the Rockdoor's reps noticed the problem, so I wonder who should educate who... It was only installer No. 2, called in by the reps (and who was on his own), who saw it. In short, I doubt the original installer learnt anything from the experience

But the door is warped, so you can't really do it. If you push in one direction, you pull from the other. When the reps where here with the original installer they tried all that (the 4mm gap, etc.), but couldn't do it.
Then the reps had to go back get an authorization from HQ to get installer No 2 to visit, for which I had to wait for another 3 weeks or so :(

(I should I have used the "quote" option...)
  • Having installed Rockdoors now for 24 years since they were first brought out i cannot understand how you can get a 10mm bow on the door slab on the hinge side because it is held solid in three places or should be . !5mm at the handle side is also extreme i have only in my experience seen one go 8mm which was a blue door before the solar skins (blue doors south facing are the worst for bowing) could you please send me some pictures by personal message .I no doubt know the Rockdoor expert who came to see you .i do feel most of your problems are fitter related

If the door and frame is not installed properly and adjusted properly on both the hinges(you have a draught at bottom hinge.Draught underneith could be door frame not sealed at cill or threshold ) and the lock strap then this can cause the door to bow . The handle were you also had a draught is supplied loose as the spy hole is on occassions and fitted by the installer. Is your door south facing if so do you lift the handle up to engage the lock at all times because if not this can cause the door to warp .Also every now and again put some vasalene /silicon spray on the latch reciever this will stop the door banging against the reciever and stop damage to the lock .Hope you get everything sorted my customers dont wait so long mainly because i know the owners and i dont get involved with customer services although to be fair i dont have many problems :A

Well, after they saw the door so bowed they stopped treating me like I was a lunatic and agreed that the door should be changed :D
Also, I think this is not an unheard-of occurrence because I witnessed a phone call between the rep and Rockdoor HQ (or whoever manufactures the doors) and the other person was not fazed by the whole situation. In fact she asked for a different picture to be taken because that should show the problem even better (which it did).

We've had 4 Rockdoor Ultimates fitted in houses over the years and never had any problems at all. There is a level of skill to fitting them and adjusting them but a decent fitter should know how they need fitting. The Ultimate range have incredibly adjustable hinges so they really should be draught free! Which style did you choose? I know some people have had issues with dark colours in sunshine at the entry level of Rockdoors' range but your experience is the worst I have read about.

Well, I think it was the Ultimate. It was certainly top of the range, which is why I thought it surprising that an A+ top of the range door could be draughty at the handle...

Said that, the fitter has a door similar to mine and his leaks at the handle as well...

You can tell if it is an ultimate by the hinges fitted and the adjustment mechanism for them. Depending on how old the door is they sometimes have the sticker with A++ on the inside of the frame (http://www.rockdoor.com/news/a-rated-rockdoors-are-here ) Rock don't have anything higher than the Ultimate.
