A friend of mine has had grey hair since he was thirty and looked a lot older than his years. Twenty five years later, he doesn't look any older than he did at thirty. I certainly do.
I'm not sure who got the bum deal.0 -
I am 40 and had my oldest son at 21. I have always been told I dont look old enough to have an 18 yr old child , but this started when he was about 8!!
So I dont think I look younger than I am, but when I hear other people say it, and they are not people I know, then i guess i must look a bit younger than my years.0 -

Yup, I'm pretty sure my face will catch up with my age eventually! :rotfl: That's why I don't mind it so much now, but when I was younger (teens and twenties) and was so annoying! People did always say I'd appreciate it when I was older!0 -

I'm not self-obsessed, or think people are fascinated with me either.
My original query was about how to deal with people who ask my age when I think it's rude to ask the question. I wasn't drawing attention to myself for being "young-looking", "fascinating" and whatever else other posters have come up with. I hate attention

Yep I don't like attention either. I also think it's rude when people ask your age, but I never worked out how to deal with it though, so sorry I can't really offer advice.0 -
I think in general people tend to stay looking younger longer now. As a child 30+ years ago my memories are of it being highly unusual for a 'mum/grown up' to have long hair or wear similar clothes to teenagers. Now there is less differentiation in style, clothing, hair, makeup, taste in music etc that the lines have blurred a bit. Add into that teeth whitening, botox, gym memberships etc and the lines blur further.
my mum and her friends probably didnt have many wrinkles at my age but shopped in m&s and had what i would consider a frumpy style. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
When does asking your age become rude? It is a standard question to kids - so I suppose it becomes rude when the person asking thinks the person being asked is old enough to mind. If the asker really expects the answer 12 then I think it probably isn't rude. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Just tell them a lady never reveals her age.0 -
I tell people I'm 60.... then I know they'll be a little surprised.
Gives me the upper hand - and I never look bad for my age.
Try it, it's liberating.0 -
I do think the need to know someone's age is something done either by the young or others who want to put people into a box or a classification.
In general these kind of people tend to only have friends of their own age and struggle with the concept that those older or younger than themselves would have anything in common with them.
It's usually a sign of a narrow minded person if they ask your age -there are usually far more interesting things to ask people about themselves.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
